It really means a lot for me!

And of course huge THANKS to all of you guys who commented and faved! I will read all your comments and try to comment back.. Though don't get upset if I'll reply with just "thanks" to some of you.. There are so many comments and I have so small amount of time to read them that It's pretty impossible for me to write long replies to every one of you.

Instead of writing down my thoughts about this piece I would like to ask you what do you see in it?
What deep message do you think it contains?
Or is it just another pointless picture?

Please share your opinion in comments.

Thanks for inviting me (and all the other people) to think about it - it was fun ^ ^

I read quite a few of the comments and it's amazing how many different ideas can result from such a simple picture...
Though I did get fed up with all the "a pencil that's impossible to sharpen". It IS possible to sharpen, although in the age of the electric pencil sharpener people seem to forget that, if you get right down to it, a pencil sharpener is nothing more than a specialized knife. Give me an UNspecialized knife and I'd sharpen that pencil anytime in any time. Also you CAN draw with it, if you are really determined. You'd probably have to fold the paper a lot and put it on the edge of a table and sharpen the pencil in such a way that the wood doesn't get in the way too much - but it WOULD be possible.

Or you might simply break the pencil into pieces and use them individually ^^

Perhaps this picture could also show how to people with some imagination and ideas even the most unpractical thing can be of use?

What an interesting piece I must say
I would say it discusses our electricity (in specific) and our resources (in general) consumption habits.

The bulb is shaped in a pencil, because a pencil will come to an end when fully sharpened, using the sharpener.
We are consuming our natural resources (the sharpener), and these will come to an end if we don't limit ourselves.

I am sure there are a lot of different meanings to this, and I did read some.
Thank you for inviting us to broaden our thinking today, I totally enjoy such thing

FungalZombieX In reply to ??? [2011-10-14 15:12:40 +0000 UTC]

I see a contradiction that my mind let spring up.
This pencil and sharpener look like the new energy conservational light bulb.
But my problem here is how quickly those kinds of pencils run out.
As for mechanical pencils. They can be refilled... And reused... Once the wooden pencil is sharpened to a stump it's rendered useless.
-aha.
I wonder if anyone else agrees with what I see here.

-Clever piece nonetheless.

fengarm In reply to ??? [2011-10-14 13:56:27 +0000 UTC]

To me that represents an intricate, refined idea. You see a bulb is a symbol of ideas and the spirals in the pencil stand for complicatedness. The sharpener is maybe added to deliver a message that the original concept must be improved further before you can make really good art with it.

Is that the same you thought?

Anyways, I like that piece of art and keep up the good work!

I see this as every pencil and mark being a new idea, whether creating art or buildings or essays, plus it's a fluorescent bulb so it's conservation as well as creativity. It kind of symbolizes those aware of the world who want to write or show it to others.
To me.
I like the other comments I didn't even think of them!
