Hey!
Sorry i'm new to painting with Photoshop but, what style of brush are you using? And are you paining in grayscale?

I'm pretty much using a basic round brush most of the time, with 'texture' selected. But try not to get caught up too much with the brush....it's technique and the overall ability to render a form that is most important. I highly recommend Ryan Church's Gnomon dvd's, and you'll see what I'm talking about
