Description
Wow lookit all those tropes I used!So this probably deserves a little bit of explanation, particularly for some friends of mine who know this subject particularly well (even though I don't think it's necessary to defend myself cause I don't caaaare).
Back in the olden days when my anatomy was atrocious and I thought animal art was the only thing that existed, I discovered the mighty power of webcomics. I followed quite a few, one being Good Cheese by Kelly Hamilton, and the other being Blackblood Alliance by KayFedewa (and later FablePaint when she joined). I remember it back before there weren't pretty backgrounds and a solid style and wow I feel old. But anyway, I actually did enjoy reading it and following along with its redux. Then somewhere along the line I became one of "those" people: the ones who felt like "woof comics bad grr!!" I even have a stamp up about it. Not for any real reason (aside from a couple incidents where I got aggravated at the whole "unless your comic is about wolves you suck" thing) it was just because I wanted to be one of those "logical comic artists" who wanted to point out flaws in everything.
Well, I'm still ridiculously anal about comics. My own, yours, your momma's, that hobo's down the street who steals wifi from Starbucks. But I have grown up to realize that, hey, nothing's going to be perfect. We all have to start somewhere. When I look back at BBA now, sure it's not perfect, but that doesn't make it bad. My own comic started out like a flaming pile of unmentionables, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to stop enjoying it and I have used all the feedback I've gotten to continuously improve. When I happened to stumble by Kay's page again and notice the BBA project was being rebooted, I was pretty happy about it. Maybe I'm not a huge fan, but I can respect anyone who had to go through everything they went through and still they listen to the critique they are given to make the comic better. And I support the idea that they aren't giving up on something they love.
So with that said (yay rambling spiels!), I decided to join this little contest~ I always wondered just what it'd be like when the blackbloods returned to save their old pack. Also I kinda hate Whitewind?? Kinda. But now I'm just sad and feel all the guilt.
The derpy Swiftkill in panel 2 is my fav. I was going to redo her but then I was all "... no. >8I" and she stayed. Because I love it.
Also I still love drawing blood.
P.S. I still can't draw wolves cryyyyyΒ

This is how it I feel it would be like. Whitewind attempting in an ill-fated gamble to make a difference when Swiftkill and Bloodspill refuse to come at first, but gets mortally wounded, fighting impossible odds. She would see her daughter looking at her in triumph and leaving her mother to her fate. There, Whitewind would realize the truth of her children, her mate, and her own fall and lamet that she was played for a fool along with everyone else by her own daughter and that she is dying without accomplishing anything that would leave a mark in their clan's history/legacy.
Seeing Swiftkill she would at first be afraid that she would hate her for all the wrongs she has done, both banishing them without fair trial and then smearing their name for years. She would admit that the clan did not need such a foolish person like her as leader anymore then it needed a corrupt one like her daughter in control. She would hope Swiftkill overthrows her daughter and leads to clan to a brighter future for everyone's sakes. In her last moments in the world, she express hope of seeing her dead mate and children again, promising to always watch over Inaria, Swiftkill, and the ones she acknowledged as the Elite Guard from the heavens. She would then go on to state that Swiftkill was "a leaf which light shown down upon" while she and her mate were just "a simple foundation built in the dark", all the while asking Β what Swiftkill thought of them as individuals and what they were to someone like her even to the end.

I can see something like this happening. Whitewind regretting everything in the last moment. It would be powerful....

i just adore the loose pencilwork. It brings so much feeling to this page. I think if you had sharp, tight clean linework, you would have lost all that raw emotion! I just really like this style. Good expressions too

AlfaFilly In reply to KayFedewa [2014-02-13 01:47:34 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! I admit I do enjoy pencil work a good deal. I used it in several comics before and enjoyed the mood it gave off. Strange how the ways you do lines can change or affect the emotion. But that's the fun thing about art I suppose!

I wanna comment, but the blasted ad keeps crashing my browser...Β There, blocked flash for now... =>.<;
Anyways...Β anatomy...Β Is there ever a time when style will trump anatomy?Β I've seen some really good stuff that would either have the subject gasping for breath were they real, and then there's Picasso...

Ahaha oh Picasso... Crazy styles and anatomy are hard things to build a relationship with. Guess it depends.

I like blood in both art and in real life... I'm just that insane.
You just need more practice on the head and the shape of the muzzle, they still look like wolves, but you'll slowly get better at drawing wolves you're an awesome artist so I know you can do it.

I remember watching this comic. I remember everyone being against wolf comics for whatever reason. lol I probably said terrible things when comics like this came into conversation, although I can't remember any specific thing. ;n; They are rebooting it??? :UUUU
π: 0 β©: 1
AlfaFilly In reply to merteazy [2014-02-08 07:06:17 +0000 UTC]
I think it was a common thing after awhile. Either you adored the wolf comics that were coming out or you hated them and made fun. There was very little middle ground. LIKE A GRAND BATTLE OF THE TITANS. But we grow up and realize these things later. When it comes to conversation usually I went along with whatever the majority opinion was cause I didn't wanna start something. You may have done the same. Sad day.
And yup! Originally Kay handed the comic over to the BG artist and she did a good load of concept art but it kinda trickled off (least online stuff). Now Kay herself is posting concept art and character redesigns and they are pretty interesting so far. No idea when the actual comic itself will be launched though. I'm pretty sure they are taking their time to get everything set before going crazy. Which is something I should have done lol

Yeah I didn't enjoy voicing my opinions with certain groups :'U You'd never hear the end of it lmao.Β
I remember that, I'm glad they are both doing it. I had a look through. The concept art is really nice. I am excite. That's what I am trying to do for Terr, figure everything out first. Albeit slowly. There are a few specific environments I can't figure out how to draw pf. YOU CAN STILL DO SO FOR FUTURE PAGES.
π: 0 β©: 1
AlfaFilly In reply to merteazy [2014-02-09 21:11:59 +0000 UTC]
A lot of times I voiced it because I did feel the same as them, other times I would argue because I like to argue, and other times I just had no energy so I went with it. It's dependent on my mood apparently.
Awww environments and logic are the hard parts booo :c especially for science fiction. I kinda gave up on some of it cause it was too frustrating haha IM A TERRIBLE ROLE MODEL.

merteazy In reply to AlfaFilly [2014-02-10 03:13:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah we were both in a place where we couldn't really do stuff as much as we wanted to (college for me then, full time career for her) and I refused to take it and run without Kay by my side. So I generated a lot of work and always kept her in the loop knowing she'd pick it up again someday.

I've got just one question though-- will you start at the last 'current' page of the 2nd chapter or start all anew? =]
Either way I'm excited to see more superb epic ness from both of ya! Β
