Step two. Pull out a 1 pixel brush and start scribbling.

This is the part of the process where things get ugly. I generally don't show this part to any one. Critique, for the moment, is not welcome. I had to teach my art teacher that. The first quarter of every project, I basically know what I'm doing. I just do it slowly.

Dispite myself, Tom still stands out as the focal point. It's like a subconcious thing. Or also maybe because I'm having a lot of difficulty shading Chris. I tend to make things darker in an attempt to hide my mistakes. It'll lighten up once I find the places hopefully.

You can tell I'm having particular trouble around his eye.

I picked these pictures because the shapes looked nice together, and the shot angles looked believable together. But I just realized they all have bizarre variations of the same expression. That slack-jawed concentrating look that I find absolutely impossible to get right. Something about that half open mouth confounds me every time.

Well, we've got three shots to figure it out this time.

Chris and Tom will need a bit of toying with. The actual references... they certainly look like themselves. Unfortunately, Tom has a tendency to go a bit cross-eyed (or more politely, he's an "inward looking" performer), and Chris often looks a tad stoned (or more politely... no, he just looks stoned).
I also need to see what I can do about Tom's expression in general. I'm down with most expressions, but not nausea. I think the risorus needs relaxing... maybe if I can shut his jaw just a hair...
