That is beautiful...I really like how the spears go into the wood like that..and the perspective looks great too...though the character must have a very small tuckus to be able to sit like that...with her foot there too..gosh it all looks awesome..if I could favorite this twice I would... Love your water color works too.

What a gorgeous piece!
I love how you were able to achieve the physicality of matter to such a high degree, yet still stylize it to your own liking. It's amazing how "woody" that wood is, for instance, haha! XD
The amount of time and effort definitely shows through with all the detail you've put in. Yes, it would totally be worth the pain and suffering to accomplish something such as this!
Amazing work! ^__^

10 hours for this seems perfectly normal. It'd be considered fast for me.
I really like how you colored it, everything just seems to fit the theme.

Nice job on this one man. my first thought was computer generated but i noticed the clouds and this was clearly painted. i also noticed there were a couple of drops of water on the top wing. i dont know if it was deliberate or not. anyway nice work i cant paint or color for shit so im really astounded by this. keep it up

This is a wonderful composition. When I first saw it I thought it was a traditional painting - it gives that impression. I can almost feel the brush strokes.
Congratulation on the DD too! I'll be life has been a whirlwind since you got it.
Hugs,

The background in this is absolutely steller. There's no denying you that. Your color choices and composition are most beautiful. Though I have to be honest and say that the character really takes away from this. You're background looks so professional--and then the character looks so amaturish. The anatomy is very wonky--past the point of being 'stylized'. It just looks very off. Her head is too large for the body. Her legs actually appear to be too short--and severed from the torso at the intense angle you have it twisting--it's too stiff and too extreme to look natural. I think that's really the major problem. Her anatomy--and the stiff, unatural pose of her body--it just throws the entire character off. At first, I didn't like her face--but looking at it now, it would actually look very beautiful stylistically if you had only applied the same style and flow to the rest of her body.
I'm wondering if you've ever tried studying human anatomy via figure studies and the like. Even if you've read anatomy books, there's still nothing better than actually drawing from life. If you aren't already doing that. If you are--keep on it ' 3'
I do beleive it is the background that received the Daily Deviation. Because that's jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Major kudos to you. But I'd really kill to see your work once you refine your character style and better your understanding of anatomy. Then your work like this will be just...amazing. Absolutely amazing.
I really honestly don't mean any offence by this--because this is really gorgeous. Please keep it up and don't stop improving yourself.

wow, long comment, thanks for taking your time to gimme feedback ! very much appreciated!
you are harsh but fair XD . i agree with the head being too big. aside from the unrealistic proportions i see mistakes especially with the right hand/ arm/ shoulder, they don't connect convincingly. i'm not sure how to solve the problem between the torso and legs, though, since a great part of the body is hidden. therefore i probably won't rework this pic (took me enough time already), BUT i will definetely do better next time(s) or die trying ! cheers!
p.s. i received the dd because i bribed the admins, isn't it obvious? (sorry, i always wanted to say this XD)

Ah--I'm glad the advice is apperciated XD I'm always a bit weary of offing advice on Deviantart since a lot of people get offended here when they're told their work isn't quite perfect ;3<3 but it's hard to resist when I see artists who really do appear to be dedicated to and serious about what they do :9

I LOVE the way that this image has that 3-D look to it and the way that you put all that detail into the wooden totem pole....that must have taken you awhile. Ask for the character I think the hands are done perfectly
DO NOT TOUCH THEM!!!!
Something I think needs a little work though is the characters face..it looks somewhat like the totem pole. Maybe if you make them a bit smaller and slender it would look better
If you have the time can you please check out my gallery I needs some comments on my work I could really use them....thank you ^-^

AliTheBandit In reply to speedsa [2007-06-13 16:07:28 +0000 UTC]
tough question !
its important to apply the correct perspective on everything. the light situation has to be harmonic as well, but perspective is probably the most important aspect. the better one is at it, the less "flat" the drawings look.
before i drew the final version of this pic i made hundreds of sketches. it took me a long time to find the ideal perspective, position and posture.
i generally think that doing experimental pre-sketches pays off immensely .
good luck on your next works !
