Thank-you very much for this. What I found most useful were the little hints and tips that take your art to the next level (like adding red where there is a greater blood supply, and the mould on the walls). So thanks a lot for this.

This is one of the best tutorials for watercolors. Thanks for sharing!
I have just one question: what do you use to ink the lines, a waterproof pen or black ink?

u are professional indeed, thanks for sharing this
if u pardon me, may i ask what colors should be use for skin?
π: 0 β©: 1
AliTheBandit In reply to nicholastse [2010-01-22 01:30:31 +0000 UTC]
For the most part, ochre, strongly dissolved red and some sort of brown work quite well (in daylight situations).
However, skin colors can variate a lot depending on the lighting, so my advise is to carefully examine the colors of photos of skin and try to replicate them with your colors.
Simply experimenting often yields the best results.

I think your tuto is excellent but I have a little problem. My drawing is a maiden with angelic features. And I'm scared to massacre her face with the skin part with pores and wrinkles. Please how can i use my dry-ish brush on the face ? Sorry my question is maybe stupid lol
(PS : sorry for my bad english too )

I never imagined watercolours were capable of that guess shows how much I know, I usually use watercolours for in a much softer way.
This has been an enlightening tutorial ^^

This is great, thank you very much.
What paper did you use, because when I drawed a pic on -special- paper for water color it stil had this curves when I apllied more water on the same place. Such bugger!
thanks again. =]

It might also help if you let certain spot dry before you apply more watercolor to them You know, unless you work wet-on-wet.

AliTheBandit In reply to topro [2007-11-18 18:55:57 +0000 UTC]
no prob .
well, the paper i use is quite regular watercolor paper, so it became a bit wavy this time, too. however, since i paint mostly with a dry brush to achieve the textures, it doesn't get that bad.
what i can recommend to do if your pic got wavy is to glue it onto something like a hard paperboard. i did this with quite a few of my pics (and will do this with this one as well) and it worked great.
ironing helps, too.
i believe there is also really thick watercolor-paper available that withstands wetness, but its most likely very expensive...

topro In reply to AliTheBandit [2007-11-18 20:33:06 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, card board sounds good.
[Ironing is dangerous to me, because I tend to forget things. It could resolve with not only burning the pic, but my house as well. XD ]

AliTheBandit In reply to topro [2007-11-18 21:08:00 +0000 UTC]
