Description Oooh, one of my first (successful) stabs at a photo-manip! ...Would this still be considered a manipulation if most of the work I did was towards changing little details (ie, mostly colour work)? I'm not so familiar with the manip category...

Original photo can be seen here .

I was inspired to do a Romeo & Juliet themed piece, where I would use a female model and edit the photo to make her appear dead (when Juliet fakes her death and Romeo believes her to be actually dead and chugs some poison)... But then I realized I don't have any female friends to model for me. Sooo... lets all pretend Juliet was a redhead, okay?

I think I'll redo this piece at some point in the future; I'll go into greater detail (makeup, costumes, backgrounds, the works) - and I'll use a model that isn't, y'know, me. I'm really getting tired of using myself... It's not easy being the model and the photographer at the same time, y'know.

Ah well... Until then, enjoy.

I just happened to stumble upon this, but there's an anime adaptation on Romeo and Juliet and in the series, Juliet is a redhead. I believe there were at least two occasions in the series where she was called a redhead as an insult.

Thanks!

And I kind of imagined her as a redhead, to be honest - though, I can't remember if it was because I read she was, or just wanted her to be... It's been a while since I read the play.

Definitely the best hair colour, by far! hahaha

and this is absolutely beautiful. You are gorgeous

I used Photoshop 7.0, and took advantage of the sponge tool on my face (desaturate), and the burn tool for more definition (eyes, lips, the right side of my face, sections of my hair, etc.). I also had to fiddle with the levels and the colour balance - and I fixed minor details (like, I made my eyebrows thinner, for example).

As a final touch I used this really cool technique to give it a softer, almost misty look. To do that all you need to do is duplicate the main image so you have two layers with the exact same picture on it. Then under filters select "gaussian blur" from the blur options, and set it at about 6-8, blurring only the top layer. Once that's done, go into "blending options" on the blurred layer (you get there from right-clicking on the layer), and change it's opacity. The blurred layer should be set to a very low percent, barely visible ontop of the original image - and voila, you have a softer-looking image!

And thank you so much!

Ah Tiko, you are so gorgeous. You make Juliet look like a dog... I bet if Romeo ever met you they'd have to rename the play "Romeo and Sarah"...

If you ever want a female model, I will make myself available for you!! I love modelling, I do it for my friend (who is a photographer) all the time!

Aw, you're such a sweetie - you made me giggle.
And Romeo would be nearly four years younger than me, seeing as he was supposed to be 16 in the play. I mean, I know with Nick being a year and a half younger than me, you'd think I'd go for it - but I'd feel like a cradle robber if I did! Plus, the whole suicide thing is a bit of a turn-off.

And I'm definitely going to have to get you to model for me sometime!

I adore modelling -- I've been getting really really into photography lately.

Especially that I have new hair now, it'll be awesome! ^____^

Ironically, the hair was the only thing I left untouched. The colour editing was done to everything other than the hair!
...I love my hair.

And thank you!

Man, I couldn't remember your account (stupid me, I should have figured) - I wanted to name-drop you and be like "Gary is my inspiration!"... but without a link that doesn't really work.

So here you go:
Gary, ~thecheatlord , inspired me to do this piece with his talk of Hamlet.

Happy?
