hello my fellow viewers, you guys haven't seen any new space art in a while, huh? well, do not fret my friends as i have returned with more awesome art. this time, its the furthest of the galilean moons from jupiter, callisto! and in the background, we see jupiter itself and the other galilean moons (ganymede near callisto, europa to the right of jupiter and io to the far left of the planet). i love how this came out, especially jupiter and the depth in the image. and if you look very carefully, you can see jupiter's ever-so faint rings too! so enjoy the image and description!

callisto is the furthest and second largest of the galilean moons. it is also the third largest moon in the solar system and is ever so slightly smaller than the planet mercury. it is tidally locked to jupiter and does not participate in any orbital resonace with the other galilean moons, due to its distance from the planet and seperation from the other large moons. it orbits jupiter roughly every 16.7 earth days. the moons ice and rock interior is said to be completely solid and frozen through, with a thick icy and silicate crust. the moon's crust is said to be one of the oldest surfaces of any body in the solar system. it is dark, cold and heavily cratered from many impact collisions in the moon's past. the most notable of these craters is the valhalla impact crater which is roughly 3,800km in diameter. the moon has a very tenuous atmosphere of carbon dioxide and oxygen. jupiters magnetic field induces a weak field around callisto and due to callisto's distant orbit from the planet, it does not recieve as much radiation as the other large moons. callisto has a large mass and is thus a possible future base or way point in the solar system. there are plan's to probably send a manned mission to the moon in the 2040's.

I love you, er, your work. It coincides with my passion and some of my studies. Despite some minor, nitpicky inaccuracies (e.g. dynamic range, but it looks better with the stars and rings) you've really captured the Jovian system well. Images like these would make great promotional work to show people the beauty of the solar system, and relatively accurately.

I guess the textures you used are photo realistic because Callisto is in pretty low resolution. Speaking of it, ESA's JUICE mission will fly by Callisto many times and go into orbit around Ganymede, obtaining plenty of striking photos with its narrow and wide angle cameras. Unfortunately, I highly doubt humans would visit Callisto any time soon (2040s), even Mars is probably further off than the 2030s.

and yes, all of the textures i use when creating images of solar system objects are photo realistic, so alot of the larger objects in the images would appear with low resolution. the only objects with high resolution images seem to be earth, the moon and mars. most likely due to the close proximity of these worlds.
