Description
I was pretty happy that i manage to get a copy of Osamu Tezuka's 1997 re-released version of 'Jungle Emperor' and what happen next totally blows me away. The animation was so welly done much better than the original kimba. A lot of details as usual, characters have been refined but still maintain back Tezuka's original style. The story is a compressed adaption version of the original manga, a little bit rush. The english translation was not bad as well. But somehow a lot of people complained that Lion King was a Jungle Emperor ripped off as Lion King have some similiar elements similiar to Jungle Emperor even the story are almost the same. But was the 1997 re-released version of Jungle Emperor a point the japanese trying to prove to Disney that they can do better? Can Lion King really stands it's ground claiming to be original? if u ask me i can only answer with this comic strip.
outline in Toonboom, color? will think about it.

Just to clear this issue up, Kimba was based off of Bambi (Look at them both, the plots, and they're very similar. Sons of forest kings fighting humans...) and TLK was based off of an african folktale and Hamlet.

Excuse me kid but..
Weren't Kimba and his father were advocates of being in peace with the humans.
Osamu Tezuka's simply was admired the style Bambi/Dumbo had. Note the eyes.
Sorry I'm just tired of people typing half of the facts.

Even though I strongly disagree with Lion King copying Kimba I still think this is funny.

Very funny stuff. Love the expressions on alphaleo's face in the last 2 panels. Haven't seen Jungle Emperor Leo but I know enough about it in order for this to be incredibly funny to me. Great job.

Awesome! Simply I adore as much The Lion King how much Jungle Emperor Leo! These two had marked cartoons me deeply and can say that they had taught to me very of what I learned! I have a suggestion: Why you do not make a Competition of Bodybuilding between Simba and Leo/Kimba in which the two " Lions Kings " they would show immensely muscular perfect bodies in a competition that would stop the savannah disputing pose the pose the heading of " Supreme King Lion " He would be well interesting and funny! What finds? ^^

Jungle Emperor was a stand against humans hunting in the wild, it's about a brave lion cub who didnt know his father yet wants to take his place in the kingdom and standing for peace and coexistence between human and animal.
Lion King was the animal version of Hamlet, it's about a dangerously curious lion cub who did know his father but chose not to be king after tradgedy strikes, then returns from a long absence to seek stability in his life.
They probably are similar, and disney probably copied, i havent quite seen most of the old Jungle Emperor but i know where some of the similarities take place, but no idea hasnt already been taken, most things exist these days because people are adapting older ones into new stories.
Besides, the story that Osama Tezuka created shouldnt stand as a party in a 15 year old controversy, it should stand in most peoples beliefs as a message of equality amoungst all living beings, or at least that's what i think.

I love this. I used to watch Leo the White Lion (Jungle Emperor) all the time when I was a weeee lass LoL It was an accident, though; I asked my mom to buy me the Lion King (while it was still in theatres, cuz I didn't know anything about release dates) and she brought me Leo instead. At first, I was disappointed but I stopped pouting and popped it into the VcR and fell in love with it. I used to get my Lion King action figures and have them act along w/ Leo episodes.
ANYWAY, I love AlphaLeo's expression as he giggles "heehee", his "oh, sh*t" at the end and Leo cracking his knuckles LoL I'm actually working on something right now that has lion amphro. May I show it to you as soon as it's done?
Keep up the great work; you're excellent!

I'm of the opinion it was a huge coincidence. It's happened before. If I remember correctly, an English comic company and an American comic company both came up with troublesome slingshot-using schoolboy characters named "Dennis the Menace" at around the same time. The characters bear no physical resemblance to each other and neither comic company had heard of the other.

Guffaws! Heh, and is now confused, I thought Lion King came before? I mean I knew I recognized several elements and even some poses from one and the other, but who was it that really came first? I like them both and am familiar with the classic white lion anime (well, familiar as in having heard of it before). Only rescently gotten a chance to see this video and loved it.
Btw... excellent line art job!

jungle emperor came first somewhere in the 1950 something, then later they have the animated series somewhere around 1960 and the recent remake movie was done in 1996.

Never seen Jungle Emperor.....But I've loved Lion King since I was four (I saw it like....three or four times in theatres and god only knows how many times on video/dvd) so I'm tending to take ol' Simba's side. Though the more I hear about Jungle Emperor, the more I want to see it.

I wish I could see it. I have once seen animated "Flying Ben" and oooh what a rough animation it is (compared by Osamu Tezuka's animated Atom boy that time) o_0
Perhaps Lion King is inspired because I have read that there's a scene Kimba sacrafices himself for a human (it seems to be Hige-Oyaji he wants to rescue). And in Lion King, human is not a considered factor. It have made a different.
You have made a good impression of Simba and Kimba. And... you are copy-catting them, muheheheheheh

i have to agree on it, it's pretty hard to find the remake jungle emperor, i was pretty lucky i found a vcd version selling. i read form the internet the dvd version is out in the state, it will took ages for it to ever reach here or in another word probably never. if u ever come across it, don't need t think twice grad it, it's better than lion king.

Disney has a long tradition of "revisiting" classic stories. Tezuka's original "Jungle Emperor" series could be said to be classic insofar as it broke new ground in the animation field. The difference between JE and "Little Mermaid", of course, is that the author of "Little Mermaid" was long dead and the property a matter of public venue by the time Disney got hold of it. JE didn't fit that description.
Disney habitually outdoes the originals in any event, with various changes to the story and characters as well as introducing new elements. It's no surprise that they can make something better, since they have had all the time and resources in the world to build off the original. It may not be original, but it's still entertaining.
