I believe that part of becoming an artist is being able to revisit older works and investing some time into fixing mistakes and advancing them. I submitted the original piece for this just over a year ago, and whilst it was one of my favourite pieces, it remained riddled with a few mistakes that I really didn't enjoy seeing. So this is to see how far I've progressed, and to do the piece justice.Now, the stupid thing is, that when I decided to do this, I realised that the .psd is on a different computer, so all adjustments have been edited directly from the .jpg. I've removed some nasty parts, changed others, and added more detail. Hopefully, it's a better piece because of it.
I know it isn't realistic with the planet easily visible through the atmosphere, but rules are made to be broken, right?. It's meant to bring out that concept of contrast better.
Anyway, I'll stop wittering, I had fun with this one, and that's probably me down for a while due to exams. For some reason every time I open terragen I draw a blank, but I guess it's all part of the learning curve. Enjoy the new hotness.

well man, i must say. its amazing! the star field seems a little more basic than some of your other works, but im guessing thats because its an older piece. however i think it probably works better with a less detailed field as it forces the viewer to focus more time on the focal points.
The nebulae/space gas at the top is lovely. orange and yellows give it a real energy about it, however the softer brushes you have used still maintain a spaceous feel about it.
The planets are superb, the top one is contrasted ALOT, but i think it works well.
i totally love that terragen! did you make two renders and merge them? the postwork is also amazing. my only critique about this piece is the clouds at the very bottom of the picture, they seem too contrasted as it seems like they are mainly a block of white in the middle and not too much detail when compared to the rest of the piece
anyway, an amazing piece. Very well done, (and very well improved)

your planets look nice same with the explosion the starfield needs a little bit of work though.

In what way does the starfield need work? IMO, it's more than fine, but if you're going to crit, I'd appreciate suggestions on how to better it - it helps me as an artist

Some of the stars look more like spikes than stars. The color difference to them is nice. Also they look a bit too sharpened. This piece is very nice but there are just specs to improve on, they don't hurt the overal image at all im just saying it imo thats the way it would look better.
