Description The Skittering Whiptail
First Appearance:
Deviantart (9/26/2019)

Origin
(---"
A type of giant, mutant arachnid the size of a large dog that can be found within The Forests of the Austro , one of the largest forests on the continent of Decemillia that borders The Ever-Changing City and several settlements that are scattered about. Whiptails are mostly solitary predators that hunt similarly to normal Jumping Spiders; jumping from tree to tree as they silently hunt down prey during the day.

The twin, whip-like tails have elastic qualities as they can stretch and retract as well as having a bio-luminescent orb that attracts prey during the night, which said orbs are able to produce a high powered shock that can stun prey. These two traits together allows the Whiptail to use their tails as an offensive weapon as one strike can result in someone becoming helpless long enough for the creature to bit into them with their venomous mandibles as they feed.

One of the most terrifying thing about these creatures is that their mandibles contain a high-powered neurotoxin that can stun even a fully grown elephant for extended periods of time. As during their breeding season, Skittering Whiptails first stun their prey with their tails, then they inject their neurotoxin into the prey to make sure that they stay motionless as the prey is dragged to the whiptail's den. After the prey is moved successfully into their den, the whiptail will then make a small incision in the creature's abdominal area and lay their eggs inside. Since the paralyzed creature is still alive, their body heat will incubate the eggs and their flesh will become the hatchling's first meal.

If the prey is around the size of a triceratops, a large number of Whiptails will each lay their own eggs as the triceratops has enough meat to feed around 50 of the hatchlings, with each Whiptail laying around 1 to 2 eggs per breeding season.

These qualities make Whiptails one of the most dangerous creatures to find within the forest, as they along with other creatures are why couriers have to be with multiple armed escorts as they go to-and-fro from different settlements that are around or in the forest. Though their reputation isn't that much of a deterent to hunters that want to bag one, as they're highly prized for their venom sacs and exoskeleton. Their tails are an even bigger prize as their properties make then valuable crafting materials, as the electricity from their orbs can be useful for energy purposes if used right."---)

One of the many different types of mutated creatures that can be found within the Super-Sargasso Sea. And as a fan of the Monster Hunter games, I figured that I need to add my own beasties to the forest to give ambitious hunters something to hunt besides dinosaurs & mythical creatures; and have a major threat for towns that could end up getting swarmed by an entire pack of Skittering Whiptails.

This character was made using Hero Machine 3.

The Skittering Whiptail is an open source creature created specifically for use by anyone. Feel free to use it any way you wish. You must also give the creator credit.

...as a fan of the Monster Hunter games, I figured that I need to add my own beasties to the forest to give ambitious hunters something to hunt besides dinosaurs & mythical creatures;

Topiary Crabs

Take a crab, swap its gills for lungs and enlarge it to around three meters long and one meter tall. Topiary Crabs are herbivores, using their claws as shears like living lawnmowers. Their name originates from their reproductive display, in a fashion similar to bowerbird nests, males will attract females by creating artificial structures, specifically, by using their claws as shears to trim trees and bushes into elaborate topiary sculptures which they then viciously territoriality defend, although aside from males during mating season, they are harmless. They possess a form of genetic memory and their sculptures will replicate things, beings and events they or their ancestors have witnessed. They are edible and their shells can be used as raw materials, but are difficult to kill on account of their size and armored exoskeletons.

Sonargulls

Take a seagull and give it the bald head of a turkey vulture. Then give it the fleshy, semitransparent tumorous mass of an echolocation melon covering most of its face, obscuring where the eyes should be. They possess sonar instead of eyesight and have a sonic attack , which is capable of stunning or killing small animals, but only temporarily disorienting humans, typically while the Sonargull in question makes off with whatever food their victim dropped. There are unconfined cryptozoological urban legends of a flightless subspecies possessing the size and appetites of a terror bird, but if they exist, nobody's survived to retrieve proof.

Plasticactus

Take a bunch of one-centimeter cubes of semitransparent greenish plastic with a lump of photosynthetic biomatter at their core. Combine them like legos to make "plants". An invasive species from some other world where the local biosphere developed the ability to naturally produce plastics in their biology reached through the miscellaneous extradimensional portals, they are completely indigestible, lethally clogging up the guts of anything unfortunate enough to try and eat them like sea turtles that mistook drifting plastic trash for jellyfish, each individual cube is capable of regenerating into a new plant in a fashion similar to kudzu and burning the plant releases toxic plastic fumes.

These are pretty awesome!

-Topiary Crab: I can just imagine a scene that takes place in The Forest where the hunters enter a grove full of different topiary sculptures, unfortunately they enter the grove during Mating Season, so they have to fight off a horde of giant crabs. These crabs could also end up being the enemies of the Rambushes since those could be mistaken for normal shrubbery.

-Sonargulls: That sounds properly freaky! I need to make that Terror Bird at some point, since that sounds like something you read in the Jurassic Park Novels mixed with The Predator. Having a scene of the more foolhardy hunters searching through the woods, but end up getting picked off one by one by The Sonic Terror with a well placed shot. There could also be a scene where The Sonic Terror has a brief fight with something like a T-Rex or a Tarasque, only to drive it off with a blast of sound in a way similar to this scene from Monster Hunter: Iceborne. Not strong enough to kill the Rex or Tarasque, but strong enough to force it to retreat with it's ears ringing for several hours.

-Plasticactus: Just imagine someone like Femchinell actually trying to defend something like this from people that want to clear it out. Except at some point this plant will encroach on the other plants in the area and she may have to make an exception to protecting all species of plants in this case since the plant is essentially the kind of plastic that an environmentalist like her would abhore.

Thanks! I wanted to make something like those Tarantula Spiders we got in the real world. The kind that stuns their victims and uses their bodies as convenient food for their young.

Well Scorpions are part of the arachnid family anyway, so I thought that would fit. Especially since Whiptailed Scorpions exist.
Also I didn't want to make it look like a regular spider, but something that would exist within The Sea as a highly dangerous Mutant species.

Thanks!
Though I wasn't really thinking of the Mutos when making this, since I haven't actually seen that godzilla movie yet.
That needs to be rectified since I am a big fan of Giant Monsters overall.
