"Hawke," Fenris stood by the fire, didn't turn when he entered the room, "Is there anything you want?"

"Hello to you too," he said with a smirk, assuming that the elf had since long learned to know when a mage was nearing him, after all that time as a slave in a country ruled by mages. "I just wanted to talk, if that's alright with you."

"Anything important?"

"Not really" Aslan seated himself on one of the chairs around the table in the room, "But I enjoy your company."

Then for the first time since he had entered Fenris turned around to look at him, and was that a smile Hawke could see on his face. "Is that so?"

"What is it to not enjoy when being around a handsome elf?"

The elf chuckled and turned again to gaze into the fire, Hawke still watching his back. He drank the last contents of the bottle he held in his hand before simply letting it drop to the floor where it shattered into a million pieces.

"Now that seems a bit disadvantageous" he said and laughed, resting his chin in his hand, "won't you cut your feet?"

"Maybe" the elf replied and walked over to him, sitting down on one of the other chairs, "If so, it will also heal."

He leaned back into his chair. "It just seemed like such a waste to me. What would happen if you were to have a shard of glass in your foot and I was in need of your help?"

"You're a capable man, Hawke, I'm sure you'll make do without me" Fenris chuckled.

"And what if I couldn't do without my gorgeous elf?" he smirked, folding his hands together and leaned forwards over the table, closer to the other man, waiting for a reply.

A smirk crossed the elf's face, but that seemed to be the only response he would be getting to his question. But it mattered little to Aslan; as long as he could get a reaction from this former slave, he was satisfied. As long as he responded in some manner to what Hawke said, that was all he needed. It was a dance, as he tried to seduce the wolf in front of him. And it would be far less interesting if the wolf just simply followed his every wish. It was much more entertaining this way; playing this game of chasing back and forth.

But eventually, he would win him over. He always did.

It was a battle of minds, a battle in his own head in which Fenris was trying to justify this... relationship he had with Hawke to himself. But at this moment it felt as if no matter which party won, he would lose.

"I'm staying because I owe him a debt."

But that was a debt that had since long been repaid. He'd followed Hawke on many jobs all over Kirkwall, delivering lost objects to its owners, helping templars and mages alike. You owed him nothing he told himself, walking from one room to another.

Is that it? Was that the only reason he had stayed by the apostate's side? Then why was he still there, then why was he still in Kirkwall? If he had stayed only because of the debt, and the debt was paid, then he had no reason to linger here.

"Safety in numbers" he mumbled to himself as he was pacing anxiously through the rooms, drinking the wine that had been left behind by the old masters of the mansion, "If Denarius shows, it will be easier to defeat him if I'm not alone." He stopped, put down the bottle on a nearby table, walked a few feet more, sat down on a chair by the fire.

And that is why you're flirting with him? Because he might help you?

"I am not flirting" Fenris growled to himself. He wasn't. And definitely not with him. Flirting was something that Isabella did, and he was nothing like the pirate.

But... he was flirting. Even if he tried to deny it, he was. And Hawke was flirting as well, which made him feel strangely... at ease.

But he is a mage.

He was different from any other mage he'd ever met, that much Fenris was willing to admit. And the apostate was nothing like his old master. Not for the simple fact that he wasn't a blood mage, but there were other things too. Even though he seemed to want to keep him by his side, Aslan had never said anything else about it other than that Fenris could be needed.

He watched the brothers exchange words with their eyes, the older of the two simply smirking at his younger that seemed to accept defeat as he shook his head. The apostate turned to him again, that smirk still attached to his face.

"You know that I could use somebody like you," he said, smiling, "If you are willing to be the companion of a mage."

At first, he was going to refuse. Helping a mage was not something that he'd ever imagined since he ran away from his master. And staying in Kirkwall, where Denarius easily could find him? That was just stupid of him. But there was something about this mage... something that gave him the impression that he wasn't like any other, mage or warrior.

"Since you helped be then," he answered, crossing his arms over his chest, "Should you ever have need of me, I will be here."

That he could use someone like him.

He ran his gauntleted hands through his white strands as a deep sigh escaped his lungs. "But mages cannot be trusted." That much he knew. And staying with one would eventually prove him right. So why did he feel so unwilling to leave Kirkwall still?

Fenris kicked over a bottle that was standing on the floor and groaned, the wine that was still left in it spilled across the floor, it's color the same as blood in the light of the fire.

That damned mage... Why wouldn't he stop haunting his thoughts?

"I've... heard about the Circle outside of Tevinter, but I've never been to one."

Aslan stopped and looked over his shoulder to the elf behind him that was looking over the courtyard, examining its statues and the templars.

"Are you sure it's wise for you to be here?"

A grin appeared on his face. "Why? Are you worried that they might take me away?"

"Hardly" came the icy reply.

"Oh, how you wound me!" he said with an expression of false pain, putting his hand over his heart, gesturing as he was truly wounded. "Why are you so cold to me, Fenris?"

Fenris managed to suppress the smirk that was itching to get out. "Stop fooling around."

"Killjoy."

A short chuckle escaped the elf's throat.

"The templars won't notice unless someone gives them a reason to notice me" Aslan said, cocking his head to the side, "I'm just another face in the crowd to them. For now, at least."

"Hm" Fenris grunted, "Then I hope that you won't stand out too much."

The smirk on his face grew. "You do worry about me!" Aslan laughed, crossing his arms around his chest, leaning closer to the other man so that their faces where only inches apart.

"I do not worry" he growled with a sour look on his face.

Hawke raised a gauntleted hand to let it rest under the elf's chin as he looked into the emerald eyes. "Well, maybe you should tie me up, so I don't go where you don't want me?" He liked where this conversation was going. Maybe he should go directly to the Knight-Commander herself? Or go find a dragon to fight?

The almost unnoticeable blush that appeared on Fenris' cheeks only widened his smile.

"Didn't you have business to attend to, Hawke?"

Aslan pulled back his hand, but the smile was still on his lips. "Killjoy." He turned around to continue the business that he did have in the Gallows, but looked over his shoulder again for a moment. "We'll continue this at another time then, I hope?" He held his blue eyes locked to Fenris, waiting for an answer.

"Fine."

"Good." He continued to walk over to one of the mages standing in the shadows.
