PLEASE FULL-VIEW.Worth the wait, and pointless otherwise.
My favorite relationship in the entire InuYasha manga and anime is that of Youkai Lord Sesshomaru (anti-hero half-brother of the titular character) and the human child whose life he saved, Rin. Their dynamic is ridiculously adorable. He is an efficient killer, a hater of humans, a prideful cross between a Vulcan and a Klingon with the appearance of a white stag or elegant white dog. He is insanely powerful, well nigh immortal. She on the other hand is a frolicking, jovial little human girl, as vulnerable and sweet as a butterfly. They are more comfortable with each other's presence than Sesshomaru and his longest-standing servant are.
To put it VERY briefly, Rin was killed in a crossfire in a battle involving Sesshomaru. He revived her using a healing sword inherited from his father (the sword is called Tesseiga), as a test of the sword's powers. Rin, a seven-year-old whose parents had been killed by bandits, immediatly transferred all the love and devotion she had in the world to Sesshomaru.
Despite being (externally) an aloof, emotionless travelling warrior, Sesshomaru allowed Rin to follow him in his nomadic life. At first he neither told her to leave him alone nor encouraged her to be his disciple and ward. But as time passed, he obtained a strong protective streak towards the child (saving her life on numerous occasions to no personal gain--in fact often hindering his own plans--and literally walking through hell to retrieve her soul the second time she is killed). When his efforts combined with those of his mother save Rin, he touches her cheek and his demon servant, Jaken, who knows him better than anyone, remarks that he is very happy.
When Rin is confronted by Jaken about her mortality, then is saved from a kidnapping by Sesshomaru, she in turn asks Sesshomaru if he will promise to remember her after she dies.
For the first time in the entire series, Sesshomaru is visibly shaken and upset, even at the contemplation of Rin's permanent death. He recovers and tells her "not to talk about such silly things," in a particularly surly fashion. The flash of true, strong emotion is undeniable.
As the series progresses more such moments occur revealing his increasingly reciprocal affection towards a human child.

It's very VERY sweet, and it provides a complexity to Sesshomaru that is rarely seen in brooding anti-heroes of anime.
These characters are the property of Rumiko Takahashi.
Yes, you can safely expect a fanfiction about Rin and Sesshomaru in the near future *is doomed to a new obsession, lol*
It is ENTIRELY 's fault.
