Description
Back in March 1999, pre-production began of what was to become "Godzilla 2". Roland Emmerich, Dean Devlin, and their company Centropolis Entertainment had been given the greenlight by TriStar and Sony Pictures to begin a follow-up to the 1998 blockbuster/flop (to critics). They went as far as having Tab Murphy write a treatment for the film which can be found here: the-american-godzilla.wikia.co… and even casting people for characters. But, due to the budget set out by the studio and negative reactions from critics, "Godzilla" was ultimately placed in development hell and Emmerich went on to direct "The Patriot" instead. "Godzilla 2" sat on the shelf for several more after that until the rights to Godzilla ended in 2003 for Sony. The planned second and third installments never happened, but you could only imagine what they would have been like. Especially since the second treatment got very positive reviews. The poster above is my interpretation of what we could have seen if "Godzilla 2" was made. I believe it would have been released in the Summer of 2000 and a sequel would have been seen likely by 2003. Below are links to images I used for the project:

I read the story they have for it and decided to make Godzilla 2 and have it as my own.

Thank God that film was never made! Emmerich had already done enough damage to the Godzilla franchise. Most of us fans of the big guy like to pretend that crappy film never happened.

As a fan of may kaiju films, I did happen to enjoy the 1998 Godzilla film. I know that many others out there don't like it as much as do, and it's my favorite kaiju film, but I still watch and like it. I f the sequel for the 1998 film did come out, I would have happily have watched it if it did premiere on television. I love this poster that you came up with; it's very awesome and this does also get my hopes up for Zilla being featured in future movies. I love it!

I agree very much. It would have been cool to see where they took the series. But, I guess we'll never know. Thanks for the compliments!

Your welcome! I'm even considering on making a comic of the lost Godzilla 2 project, but I'm still trying to decide. Maybe it'll be on DeviantArt in the far future?

That would be awesome! I always wondered what a screenplay/storyboard of this would have looked like. It had the potential for some killer designs!

Well, apparently in the second film's script they wrote out Audrey and a new female supporting role was going to be added. I chose Rachel Weisz because at the time she would have been coming off of the success of The Mummy. In my mind I just saw this as something they could have done at the time.
