Back in March 1999, pre-production began of what was to become "Godzilla 2". Roland Emmerich, Dean Devlin, and their company Centropolis Entertainment had been given the greenlight by TriStar and Sony Pictures to begin a follow-up to the 1998 blockbuster/flop (to critics). They went as far as having Tab Murphy write a treatment for the film which can be found here: the-american-godzilla.wikia.co… and even casting people for characters. But, due to the budget set out by the studio and negative reactions from critics, "Godzilla" was ultimately placed in development hell and Emmerich went on to direct "The Patriot" instead. "Godzilla 2" sat on the shelf for several more after that until the rights to Godzilla ended in 2003 for Sony. The planned second and third installments never happened, but you could only imagine what they would have been like. Especially since the second treatment got very positive reviews.

The poster above is my interpretation of what we could have seen if "Godzilla 2" was made. I believe it would have been released in the Summer of 2000 and a sequel would have been seen likely by 2003. Below are links to images I used for the project:
