Description
I walk through the forest; the only place I know, and I know it well, given that I've stalked its dark canopy for what could easily be centuries (though I don't know for sure, I never counted the days). As I do, one glaring, pale item steals my attention, and I move to investigate. As I near, I recognize its rectangular shape and array of lines that run across it. It is a note, one of many I have found, no doubt left by someone to warn of the horrid monster who lurks within the dark forest.

"Always watches (X) No Eyes"

I've seen these same words on another note, quite a few other notes, in fact, and it proves what I have feared; the legend of the menacing creature without a face still spreads, and more are adopting the myth, clinging to it as reality.

I am not always watching. However much I may find myself lost when I stare into the beautiful, depthful eyes of a human, and want to reach out to them, hold them in my arms and give them the warm comforting feeling they give each other...

I never will. I have never comforted a human with my presence. I have never touched a human without them becoming dazed and falling to the ground, no doubt victim to the 'Slender Sickness', as I've heard it called...

and I will never gaze into the eyes of a human who is not terrified by the monster who stands before them.
