Description
I did a model making and special effects course when I was at uni and made this little guy.Edit:
THIS IS NOT REAL. It is made by creating a chavant sculpt, moulding in fiberglass and casting in platinum silicone which you can buy from mouldlife [link] I would never cause harm or distress to an animal.

You actually made the octopus? That's so amazing. It looks very life-like. You must have spent a lot of time on it cuz look at those fine details!
I agree with the others here. This looks good on a desk. It's like that goldfish-in-a-bag soap thing.
Anyway...very good work

thank you yup I made him at uni ummm I think the project was two weeks long so it took about that amount of time. I would seriously like to make some more of these and see if I could sell them if enough people asked for it then you guys could have squidgy desk friends

It's just amazing that you made it by hand. He'd make a nice aquarium deco too. Just sit there at the bottom of the tank looking mean and bad ass

I would love to do that! The only problem would be the cost to make them since the silicone is so expensive :s but I could make much smaller ones and then it wouldn't be so expensive xxx

Wow, at first I thought this might be a dead one, some of taxidermy. But wow, you made it!? That's awesome! It looks very very life like. I just wish you would have shook the bottle a bit to get out some of the bubbles that have settled on it. Looks great, very life, er, one alive like!

AmeliaMoo In reply to sloppy-octopus [2010-05-25 09:44:50 +0000 UTC]
funny you should say that! I had work experience with a taxidermist and the idea of the project was to make a model that looked so hyper realistic it could pass for taxidermy of a speciemen in a jar. I know! The bubbles are so annoying I shook the jar but it made it worse and i tried brushing them off with a finger but there were so many of them! thanks for the comment xxx

Looks fantastic and so real; silicone is such cool stuff! I'd love to learn to work with it too, sometime. Did you sculpt it in clay or something then mold the silicone with the sculpt?

AmeliaMoo In reply to sandcastler [2010-03-19 17:22:08 +0000 UTC]
Hello thankyou very much I used Chavant also known as plastaline a wax based clay then made a two part fiber glass mould over the top of it and used platinum silicone to cast it in hope that was helpful? If you're uk based you can get all those materials at tirantis in London around the corner from warren street station xxx

awesome work. very realistic. you could walk around with this on the street and i guarantee you people would be looking at you in awe. xD or you can put this in someone's bathroom and freak them out XD
