“Maybe He’s Born with It?”

Tarbosaurus bataar. An acrylic painting of Khan, the Tarbosaurus, looking majestic in the bright sun.

This was inspired by a series of photos I had seen online of portraits of lions looking very dapper. I got to play around with some sword brushes to paint in the long flowing locks of Khan’s mane. Manes are basically a structure I like to give my male Tyrannosaurids, with the females having either smaller versions or lacking these structures outright.

I also wanted to channel some serious Fabio Lanzoni vibes with this one, since Khan’s look was quite heavily influenced by Fabio.

The next few paintings on my schedule are funnily enough Asian Tyrannosaurids (Tarbosaurus and Qianzhousarus), and they are going to be basically paintings done for Halloween.

Completed in early August 2022.
