I found this picture drawn by Tracy Yardley (his DA account here: ), an artist for the official Sonic The Hedgehog comic series from Archie Comics, as a commission for :telofax.deviantart.com/art/Sal…
I have never read the Archie Comics, but I have always been enamoured of the digital lynx form that NICOLE takes in holographic projections. So this image really jumped out at me, and, as I commented on it:
"Someone oughta colour this in! It deserves it!"
So... I decided to. I based the colour scheme off of these two pics, each from the official Archie comic:

I rather like how this turned out. The scan accidentally removed a bit of the vitality of the original colours, but it kinda worked out for NICOLE's dress, because I accidentally coloured in the highlights of her dress a little too brightly.
Don't they look a bit like a lovey-dovey girl-couple, though? lol

Same here. I kinda had that in mind back when I was coloring this in, honestly, and then it turned out that was what they had in mind before the Archie run ended. We never got to see them as an official couple

I thank you! And to think that all I had was a bunch of colouring pencils and a pair of Tracy Yardley reference pics to get close to the fidelity of how he coloured his pics of Sally and NICOLE. I made a number of colour swatches on a separate paper so that I knew which colour combinations would produce an ideal final product. Sadly, the original picture has been damaged since it was scanned when I accidentally locked a cat in my room for a few hours; he slipped in in between my legs and... used several papers of mine as makeshift litter before we realised where he was. But thankfully, cats can't use digital scans as makeshift litter!

I agree with KazeZeroL. Not to go into detail, but the way he drew some minor aspects seems a little more than 'just friends' for me (holding each other's hands, the glare they're giving each other, ect.)

Well, it's not really a glare, but I see what you mean. The way they're holding hands, and the gaze that they're sharing, does seem to indicate something of a shipper-on-board in Tracy Yardley.

Actually, I sort of got a vibe that they were being shipped in the flashback in Sonic Universe #73 (which is set in the new continuity and thus technically wouldn't affect these versions of the characters, but still.) Nicole talks about wanting to see the stars the way Sally does. In fact, the whole arc seems to be shipping them to a degree- both the dialogue and the art- the latter pencilled by, guess who, Tracy Yardley! One of the variant covers for the arc is devoted to them being "Best Friends Forever", not unlike the Eggman and Wily "Evil Friends Forever" variants. Just to inform those who've not read Worlds Collide, the arc basically writes them as a bickering married couple.
Sally is a rather interesting case with regards to her character's history. She was created by the Sonic SatAM staff to act as a love interest and possibly eventual girlfriend for Sonic. This, of course, led to many fans denouncing her as a Mary Sue, especially under the infamous Penders vs Bollers feud that gave us the infamous "slap". Now, SEGA has banned Archie from having any of the characters from the games in any kind of romantic or even familial relationships. Sonic/Sally is no longer an option... which means that Sally has done what some of the best characters have done, and that is to outgrow their original plot function/niche. I don't know anything about SEGA's policy regarding same-sex (well, same-gender since Nicole is an A.I.) couples in tie-in media- I remember that Penders was planning to out Rotor back in the Dork Ages. But it's a new universe, a new world. These characters have new chances. And I think this may be the perfect chance to take.
Well, that spiel was a lot longer than I'd intended it to be.
