Description
Part 2Cost of materials in this part:
Newspaper: free
Flour: ???
Total cost:
$8.99
EDIT:// The shells came out a little bit small, so be careful with that.
This turned into pretty much just paper mache. Oh well, this is mostly for the WIP pictures with a little commentary so it's not all in the comment here.
Tomorrow I'll just be adding more layers to the papier mache, so I'm not gonna bother putting together another one of these for another few days, at least until I'm doing something new.
THIS DID NOT NEED TO BE ITS OWN TUTORIAL PAGE WHY DID I DO THIS

This seems to me like the easiest way to create an awesome-looking portal gun. Why I haven't thought about using paper mache before?
Thank you for sharing! Do you think that aluminium foil will be fine, instead of mesh?

Hi~ Thanks for the comment.
I actually have doubts this is the best way in all honesty because if you want it to look super nice you have to do a lot of filling and sanding because paper mache can dry pretty lumpy and deformed, but it is cheap and uses more familiar materials than other things I've seen.
I don't think aluminum foil alone would work because for one it is really quite thin and you'd definitely have to fill in the gaps on the form to keep it round, but if you do that and manage to get an even shape, bless you and your patience. The other reason is because the paper would probably slip off really easily. The second issue could be handled by covering the foil that will be in contact with masking tape. Or you could just go for it and once you have some dry paper mache you can just go from there, but I can't be certain it would stay on for subsequent layers.
The second time I tried with the mesh I didn't leave the mesh inside the paper mache (because the first time I'd had to sand a lot of lumps and in some cases the mesh was shaped wrong and i wouldn't be able to sand past it), but the mesh was also pretty slippery. It's a lot of trial and error.
Good luck to you and your project~

Thanks! Though the paper mache ends up being really pretty lumpy and needing a lot of sanding work.

Yeeeeah I just ended up having to re-do parts of it. So it's delayed...a lot. Still hoping to have it finished by halloween, but here's to hoping I remember to take pictures.

Sizing was off in relation to the pipes that I needed for the barrel.
