*EDIT*
THIS IS IMPORTANT
SIMPLY SPRAY FABRIC PAINT IS A LIE!! ALL LIES! I WASH THE HOODIE AFTER 3 @#$@% MONTHS OF DRYING AND THE BLACK IS NOW A GRAY!! UNACCEPTABLE !!
FFFTTTTTT i can fix it in my pictures in photoshop but it won't be the same
i need better fabric paint to fix it apparently
SO THIS TUTORIAL IS NOW VOID
*END EDIT*
Part one of my tutorial showing the process of how I painted a white hoodie to look like Mr. Snippy's jacket from the webcomic Romantically Apocalyptic by `alexiuss
I just knew after making it and posting pictures everyone would ask where I got it or how i made it xD.
Part two
FAQ's:
Q: Does simply spray really not fade like they say?
A: OF COURSE IT DOES FADE, the spray fabric paint never
works, and i'm an idiot for using it xD
Q: SO WAIT WHAT HAPPENED??
A: After a 3 months of drying and setting, i washed the
hoodie once and the black changed to a gray
don't use simply spray is all i can say... still don't know what
to use to fix it yet...
Q: Where can I find your pattern for the hoodie?
A: Here! [link]
Q: Can I use this tutorial? I want to use it to help me cosplay Snippy!
A: Sure! that's what it is here for xD just do not re-post this tutorial anywhere else
without my permission please.
Q: Where can I get simply spray?
A: Well here is their webpage [link]
and the have a list of retailers where they sell their paints here [link] It seems
that they only list where you can get it in the U.S.
Q: How much is simply spray?
A:
Q: How many cans did you use?
A: 6
Q: I'm confused/nervous about how to use this paint! ;-;
A: watch one of their videos of how to paint with simply spray
and they have some general tips on their webpage [link]
Q: Can I use spray paint instead?
A: UHhhhh, I wouldn't suggest spray paint at all, it dries kinda stiff and
smells really bad unlike simply spray which dries soft and doesn't have a smell!
Q: Where did you get the hoodie? Did you make that to?
A: No I didn't make it xD, I got it at sears, it was only $20, but you can buy a
similar hoodie pretty much anywhere! and perhaps for cheaper!
Q: Did you ever use that white masking tape?
A: No I didn't, the blue tape was much better cause it was thicker, I'm pretty
sure you could use the white kind if you don't have painters tape.
Q: Who is Mr. Snippy?/ Where can I find this webcomic?
A: `alexiuss First episode: [link]
have another question? leave a comment!
and I'd love to see what people make after reading this tutorial!

MOST EXCELLENT!
I wish you the best of luck!
If you are good at sewing and making sewing patterns I do highly suggest doing that as oppose to painting.

Just a thought, my art teacher constantly mentioned to us to be careful with acrylic because if we get it on your clothes it won't come off. Do you think it'd be a good idea to try black acrylic paint?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SucittarSucivron In reply to LieutenantDork [2012-07-10 23:59:47 +0000 UTC]
Well, acrylic is essentially a plastic, therefore unless you paint it with watered down acrylic, whatever you paint on the fabric would be hard and plastic-y. I'd try that on a scrap piece of fabric first to see what the results are like.

Alrighty, I'll give it a shot and see if it works. :> I forgot how acrylic dries *bonks self on head* I can remember it's plastic based, but not how that affects it once it dries.

Good luck! and hey! let me know how it turned out
And that's okay, I had thought of using acrylics as well before hand xD

hmm, instead of simply spray, what if you poured liquid black clothes dye into a spray bottle? Would that possibly work?

SucittarSucivron In reply to Skipskatt [2012-04-06 15:45:02 +0000 UTC]
I have no idea, It might. you could test it on some scrap fabric first.
I know that the type of fabric paint that you can paint on the fabric with a brush will be more permanent that simply spray.
Some good quality paints at DickBlick's website

okay so i tested the dye, but it wasn't very effective. I ended up going with "Tulip" fabric paint, which seemed fine after one wash and worked pretty well.

Simply Spray is no good. If you look on the label, it says that it washes off. I have a bottle of the stuff that says it glows, and the tiny print said that.

Actually my brother did this tutorial and used fabric paint and he said it turns out really really smelly.

StrawberryJam331 In reply to MichiMei [2012-02-07 22:10:37 +0000 UTC]
The paint was smelly when wet, or the finished product was? If it's the latter, than that's too bad. Do you know what brand he used?

MichiMei In reply to StrawberryJam331 [2012-02-07 22:14:14 +0000 UTC]
It was smelly even after it was dry and he used Tulip Fabric spray paint.

I am going to redo my hoodie this spring, since the spray does not hold its color and faded in the wash. So i can tell you after
but as far as i know no one else has. I know someone sewed on the black shapes using my pattern. I can give the link if i can find it

Good luck with the redo, I would love to see the result. I recently bought a hoodie, paint, and textile medium so I will be attempting to paint it with help from your pattern. I would appreciate that link if you find it.

I tried this method and my jacket is complete shit lmfao. It bled SO bad. -_- I currently trying to bring it back from the grave but i'm probably just going to end up burning it in my fire pit. And I can't even find a suitable snow jacket to buy that looks close enough to his. -_- So mad haha.
