Description
This character was a design trade with Suntail812 ! Thank you so much for this character! He looks absolutely amazing! I finally got myself a Pantalan character too!Name: Atlas
Gender: Male
Tribe: Silkwings
Age: 8
Appearance: Atlas is massive, and towers above most Silkwings, rivaling the size of many larger Hivewings. He is mainly orange and yellow in colouration, with a pale underbelly, iridescent orange on his neck and legs, darker bits on his brow, horns and back, freckled marking on his chest and face, and triangle marking running down his legs and body. His wings contain similar orange blots, along with darker waves, and lighter triangle spots. He wears a satchel at all times that contains travelling supplies.
Backstory: Being a low-ranked Silkwing born in the Mantis Hive, Atlas had never had any issues with the rule of the Hivewings in terms of oppression. He had stuck to the rules, despite not understanding their purpose. As he grew older he became more wishful thinking. His parents were particularly devoted to Clearsight, and put a lot of faith in the Book. Atlas loved the stories he heard about her wisdom and ability to see the future. He longed to meet the mysterious dragons from across the sea, though he knew little about them. He started studying what little information his hive had on the Distant Kingdoms as he heard they were called. As he didn't have wings at the time, he knew venturing over would be impossible. Once he had his wings, he struggled between staying devoted to his loving family, where he was quite happy, or perusing his dream of being the first Pantalan dragon to travel across the sea. He knew if the Hivewings found out about this ambition, they would clearly put him in his place. He found himself in his cell for hours at a time. With what he learnt, he made travelling devices strictly prohibited by the Hivewings such as compasses. All he knew was that his destination was east. One night, he decided he had to leave to satisfy his dream. Travelling very slowly and carefully, resting on every island he could, he set out, taking many months to arrive, as he knew a single wrong step would send him to his doom. He arrived at the land known as Pyrrhia. He met the dragons of the seven kingdoms. He shared his knowledge of Pantala. He now lives his life travelling, meeting as many dragons as he can, learning their stories as his quest for knowledge continues. One such dragon he met was named Downpour, an odd hybrid, along with her gang of misfits. He quickly become friends with them, and he assists them in their endevours. He one day hopes to establish connection between the two continents, and unite the two. He is currently attempting to persuade many animus dragons on Pyrrhia to assist him in creating devices that allow many dragons to travel between the two continents at ease.
Personality: Atlas is a warm-hearted, protective type. He loves to look out for those he cares about. His devotion to his family was one of the major factors that delayed his expedition. After arriving in Pyrrhia, his devotion to his friends became more apparent. He started acting like a father to the group of younger dragonets he met such as Downpour, Dolphin, Citrine, and Oddball. He loves guiding younger dragonets and persuading them to follow their passions, due to his own experiences. While being generally pacifist, he will stand up for those he loved in non-violent manners. He enjoys learning, shown through his desire to leave Pantala to learn about the other continent. He is inventive and curious, as he was able to create forbidden devices to assist with his journey to Pyrrhia.
Symbolism: Atlas is actually the first Wings of Fire character I've made who's not partially based on any person I know, so there isn't symbolism in his backstory, however, his name has a few tidbits of theming. As the Atlas moth is the largest moth, his name suits his size. More interesting however, is because an atlas is a book of maps, it suits the character being an explorer who ventured to an unknown continent.
Quote: "I absolutely believe in following your passions. Do whatever you want to do with your life. Just don't kill anyone, because that's rude."
Whew, that took over an hour to write. I still have one more reference sheet for a character too. These things take a lot out of me because of my love of character building.
