You know the story... beautiful Psyche, the Greek princess, is taken to the top of a mountain to be a sacrifice after the jealous Aphrodite punishes her family. Then the West Wind, taking pity on her, carries her across the land to a beautiful palace full of wonderful things... but the palace is empty, and it seems the servants are invisible. She is told she is to be the wife of the mysterious invisible king, and sleeps in his bed each night without ever seeing him. She falls in love with him, but her envious sisters convince her to sneak a look at his face, and she finds he is the beautiful God Eros. With her candle she ruins her own joy, for a mortal cannot look upon a god...
Of course, I like the nice version in which Psyche goes to Hades to win back her love
And I LOVE the similarities between Beauty and the Beast, West of the Moon/East of the Sun, and Eros and Psyche. (Read East, by Edith Pattou... it's a lovely book that blends all three)Drawn with pencils, colored in Paintshop Pro. ConCrit is really appreciated!
