This is number 77- test in the big 100 because it was a test of my resolve to finish this, and it should be a test for you guys to see if you can get any useful info from my ramble.

Its probably full of typos, but I just wanted to get it up, it can have minor edits later.
Have fun with it folks, tell me what you think.

EDIT the file was too big, so its been split into two parts, you can see the fist half by following this link [link]

Blending pencil?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andpie In reply to jackboll59 [2013-05-17 06:09:30 +0000 UTC]

Yes.

As far as I know they are now made by Derwent, LYRA (as used in the tutorial) and Prismacolor.
If you can't find them in your local art/stationary shop, try ebay (its where I get mine)

Very helpful tutorial. Sometimes it's hard to get bays right because they really are a blend of colors. And thank you for listing the color names for each step.

Hi! Again. I just got my word day present and it was a COLORLESS BLENDER. (2 actually) Do you have expierience with them? How diferent should i use them?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andpie In reply to DarkestHorn [2009-02-16 01:08:03 +0000 UTC]

Umm its not too different from any other pencil, just use it over the top of your colours to give a softer, blended look.

A blending pencil is a pencil with no pigment. Its just a wax base. The core of a blending pencil sort of looks like the colour of fingernails.

Id put up a pic for you but my computer has broken and I'm writing this from a poopity internet cafe.

Wow, this looks awesome! I've got to love color pencils. Lovely horse, and so realistic.
Have you got any idea of how or where could I get a blending pencil? I live in europe (hungary) and I never seen one of them. What brands sell them?

paula2206 [2007-05-14 20:45:15 +0000 UTC]

Ok - I will be honest - the horse is really great, colors are fine, the anatomy and everything - but the background doesnt suit. It seems like another person was doing it. I think that you should either leave it completely blank either do it as accuatly as the main subject...

Where do you find blending pencils?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andpie In reply to toffee934 [2007-04-11 06:17:56 +0000 UTC]

I found mine online, but I can't remeber where. Sorry.

If you live in the USA you may be able to get hold of the prismacolor blending pencil fairly easily.

I tried so may different ways to use color pencils, but have failed.. I haven't tried this technique.. I hope it works for me..

But even if it doesn't this is a great tutorial.

Equus-Lupus [2007-03-24 18:12:04 +0000 UTC]

Wow! This was awesome! Ive never been that good at colouring, but just looking at this Ive seen many ways of improving my technique!
Also, I plan to get a blending pencil as soon as possible! I love how 'shiny' and smooth it makes everything look! But, one question. What actually IS a blending pencil? What is it made out of? I just wondered cos I may actually have one buried away somewhere, yet just not know what Im actually looking for!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andpie In reply to Equus-Lupus [2007-03-24 19:56:52 +0000 UTC]

well from a distance my blending pencil looks like a normal pencil, but the core contains no pigment (it sorta looks like crusty fingernails) it says "LYRA rembrandt- splender" on the side. I hope the tutorial proves useful for you

Equus-Lupus In reply to andpie [2007-03-24 20:22:17 +0000 UTC]
