Description
Without a doubt my favorite villain-kaiju of the Godzilla universe, MechaGodzilla made its first appearance in the 1974 classic 'Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla' (also known as 'Godzilla vs. The Cosmic Monster' and 'Godzilla vs. The Bionic Monster'). In the first movie, it was hypothesized by hostile alien invaders that the only way to get rid of Godzilla (and thus leave Earth defenseless) was to destroy him with another Godzilla. Thus came the construction of MechaGodzilla.There have been two remakes of the monster (1993's 'Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II' and 2002's 'Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla'), both of which were terrestrial in origin rather than alien, but the Old School version will always my favorite.

Yes indeed! While I liked the later designs (Kiryu was a streamlined beauty), MG1 will always hold a special place in my heart.

Am I the only one who believes this Mechagodzilla is more badass than the ones that came out later? (And yes, I do like the later versions, MG93 especially my fave)

Yeah, I think it was the presentation of classic MechaGodzilla that made it seem the best. It comes out of it's disguise and there's that jazzy beat as it shows off closeups of all its weapons. That's making an entrance.

Oh hell yes! Granted, I did like the ominous march tune from 1993, but that sweet jazz beat from the original just stuck with me. And then, to further embed it into my psyche, they repeated that same tune during the later scene when MG just unloads all his artillery on Godzilla and King Caesar. Remember this life-lesson, children: making an entrance and kicking ass, that's the MechaGodzilla way!
