Description
From my B-Movie Monsters collection, Ro-Man from 'Robot Monster' (1953). Evil Ro-Man (his full name in the film is Moon Robot Ro-Man Extension XJ-2 – no fooling!) lays waste to the human population of Earth with only eight survivors (who are inexplicably immune to his death ray for some reason) left to hunt down. According to film sources, they lacked the budget to create a full-on robot suit, so the director Phil Tucker hired his friend George Barrows, who made his own gorilla suit, to play the title monster.Created in pencils with some clean-up in Photoshop.

I have to say, you've probably made Ro-Man look about as scary as he can possibly be. Unfortunately, he's still less scary than a regular robot, man, or gorilla on their own. It was a valiant effort on your part.
I'm not sure if a a full robot suit would have saved this movie. In face, the absurdity of the gorilla suit is probably what kept the memory of this movie alive for so long.
If I were to try in vain to make this monster 'cool' based on the basic idea, I would probably go with less of a straight gorilla and maybe make Ro-Man look almost like a terminator neanderthal. The idea is that he's supposed to be built to perform similarly to a human, but with brutish 'design upgrades' from aliens that don't totally understand or care for how humans look.

Thank you, I feel the absurdity of the character design as well as the movie's plot just makes this a classic for me. It reminds me of a line from the movie 'The Producers': "How could this happen? I was so careful. I picked the wrong play, the wrong director, the wrong cast. Where did I go right?"
