Description
Another entry for Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, this is Yog-Sothoth. Where Azathoth is a blind idiot, Yog-Sothoth is all-seeing and all-knowing, described as 'an All-in-One and One-in-All of limitless being and self – not merely a thing of one Space-Time continuum, but allied to the ultimate animating essence of existence's whole unbounding sweep.' For an all-seeing cosmic terror-god, I thought it would be appropriate to add a ton of pupiless eyes to the customary tendrils.Created and rendered in 2H and 2B pencils.

I really like the way you made this creature. Very creepy!
Why did you go for completely blank eyes? Are they supposed to be luminous? Windows into Yog's alien mind? I would think that even if they were supposed to be blind, they would have some detail.

Great point. I think the main reason I left them blank was because I thought at the time that they would provide a sharper contrast with the surrounding folds of flesh. According to sources, Yog-Sothoth's 'eyes' are luminous orbs (possible windows to countless worlds, time lines, dimensions, realities, etc.), so I thought leaving strictly negative space, a lack of detail, would convey a better sense of the reality or unreality it has access to. In hindsight, I'm not sure if that was the best decision for the piece.

Don't feel bad about it, I was still able to guess what you were going for, so you got it across. It also totally makes a stark contrast with the textured droopiness of the rest of Yog. Maybe the text time you try this you could try to use the eyes as light sources in a darker picture.
Using negative space to convey an otherworldly nature is something I like and would like to be able to do. Unfortunately it exists at a weird intersection for art- it can look completely striking, but because it's untouched by the artist, some may assume that something is just incomplete. I think it's a cool idea and would like to see it more, but it would probably take photo-realistic mastery of color and texture to do it believably.
