Description
As some of you may know, even though I have graduated from college, I have to stay an extra year to complete my double-major in animation, and every Senior has to do their own Senior thesis to show at the end of May 2006 in a festival. As opposed to my last project, SALSA!, which took 3 months to do, THIS thesis will be worked on ALL year! So, we have much more time to do what we want!We were encouraged to think about what we want to do with our project over the summer, as we have learned that it is very busy and slow during the year. Some ideas consisted of an adaptation of the Monkey King, an adaptation of the novel Flatland, a talking boat, and chickens with balloons for heads. After a month of thinking, I have decided upon mimes as the subject for my project, and here are the first drafts of the main characters.
The son of a former submariner and farmer works as a mime at a circus. A newcomer is hired, and is so good that he fears he may be replaced. As he gets to know this stranger, he discovers that he CANNOT speak, and his skin really IS white, and his nose really IS yellow! He is an alien mime. The rest of the short follows him and his new alien as they try to get him back to his home planet inhabited completely by mimes. This is a good subject for my level of skill as it offers many physical opportunities, story ideas, and minimal dialogue.
The previous version is here: [link] . Tell me what you think about these designs. I think this version is easier for me to work with, as it is more toward my own style, more Looney Tunes. I did away with the sister, and instead focused more on the relationship between these two characters. Another model sheet of the miming instructor will follow soon.
Of course, things may not go as planned, and so, I may not even get a chance to color all of these drawings after I finish the animation! But I will do what I can- I have gotten past the technical issues with SALSA!, and am confident that I can do this.

these models look much simpler to animate yes, but I'm not sure if they look as stylized . . . I guess it depends on how you animate them. goodluck with your project!

Design looks much more simple for animation -- plus no hair, don't have to worry about follow-through
I liked the last one better actually but that one is much more suited for a print or web comic.
Question, though -- submariner and farmer? Curious how that interesting mixture of parentage figures in the story...

His father used to work in the war in submarines, and he got to keep one of them as a keepsake.

BLAME THE MIMES, THEY DON'T TALK.
...Ok.
This is vaguely creepy and terribly cool at the same time.
