Hollywood/Anime, not a very good mix.  lol

I'm not saying it will suck, just saying that their track record isn't very good. Besides, why try and improve on something that was awesome to begin with?

Anime is just another source material, no different then adapting a comic, novel or anything else. You know what has a worse track record than anime adaptations? Video games, but people don't freak out as much when announcements come out about those. Any and every movie adaptation of an untested property is a gamble, it all depends on the filmmakers, not the subject matter, so I never liked the whole idea of people getting up in arms about this stuff (given, when it comes to movies I lock up my geek/nerd fanboy-self in the attic). 

It doesn't need to improve anything, but good or bad- it's gonna get a lot of people aware of Ghost in the Shell that would never have known/ been interested in it. Why does anyone make any kind of movie? Because they think it'll make money and Scarlet Johannssen has a very good track record of making money ESPECIALLY in the international market.
