Sketch of Marcus Ulpius Nerva Traianus (born 18 september 53, ruled from 27 january 98 to his death in 8 august 117, in age of 63), the greatest roman emperor. Trajan is remembered as successful soldier-emperor who presided over the greatest military expansion in roman history, led the empire to the maximal territorial extend (by conquering Dacia, Nabatea and Mesopotamia). He is also known for his philantropic rule, building programs and social welfare policies. Even the Senate declared him as 'optimus princeps' (the best ruler).Related content

Oh, he definitelly was one of the greatest. Great warrior, ruler and even greater philosopher. However, he messed up when he appointed Commodus as an heir instead adopting more competent person (like his predecesors did).

Of course Marcus Aurelius in all his wisdom didn't left Commodus as emperor by mistake, he did so that we could make a great movie about it. x)
