I confess I find the first pose more effective:in this one she seems more pleasantly surprised, while the previous one seems to say "now look how I'm gonna amaze you".
But it's the only thing I think you made better before, for the rest your use of light and shading here is amazing, you can see light and magic and sparkles twirling around her, and the way the pages light her face while the cape keeps the back in dark is very well done. Her robe too is very elegant, simple but detailed, and realistically draped. Alsoi the book has a lesser flat appearance, looking like a real ancient tome. Last thing, those orbs on the shoulders were a nice creative touch.

Hi i found your piece on (and so following a comment guide for it)
First Impression: It is quite a visually attractive image, the colours and shades you have used are well blended and it is quite enjoyable. It really captured the image of a mage conducting her art and to me was reminiscent of skyrim.
Style: Your style to me comes across as semi realism and it is quite appealing and is quite fitting to the fantasy like style you have. the glowing rune book and curse on her face really highlights the contrast of your dark shading and lighting.
Technique: your painting and blending is quite well done. as with your use of the unusual lighting source. The way you painted the hair is very visually appealing it flows and frames her face like true hair would. While the mouth and lips are done very well it however feels off. To Expand on that basically her expression does not fit to her actions where she should a bit thinner and maybe more of a concentrating smirk than a pursed lips. Also her right hand and left hand do not match up, the right hand is longer and more delicate while her left hand is shorter and thicker, the visuals for the right hand is closer fitting to the character than the left hand is. It probably just needs to be longer and instead of the thumb curving inwards to the palm it should be directed out toward the index finger looking more natural if casting a spell.
Atmosphere: the atmosphere of the piece has a lovely feeling of hope with the golden light making the impression of casting a healing spell, if you wanted to play around with the atmosphere changing the light to different colours such as violet to conjure, red for destruction, blue for naturalistic spell etc you could play with the atmosphere (and with different spells different expressions) Over all the atmosphere makes the piece feel like she is in a dungeon healing a team-mate.
Closing thoughts: It is a overall well made piece and you have shown incredible improvement from the original piece that you redrew from. You colour and lighting uses are really well done and overall it is very visually appealing. It is definitely a work to be proud of and you should be proud of your achievements! <3
