Description

OMG I AM NEVER DOING THIS AGAIN!!!
Well maybe; for failz shading

Making a traced base is pretty challenging depending on the picture quality; what you want from it and so forth. Here is (what I hope to be) a nice straight forward tutorial on how the process works~

Note to everyone: I am not going to argue on the topic of using someones art without their consent to made a trace is theft/stealing/etc. I for one have learned a lot about hair/shading/anatomy/clothing through the use of traced bases as well as original ones. My first drawings were complete crap and please don't give me the lecture about studying life anatomy; I have and it doesn't work for me. I understand people don't like traced bases. That doesn't mean you need to troll and flame about how you don't like them; the same goes for those who support the use of traced bases. I do not gain any monetary compensation or anything of value and I continually look to find the original artist and obtain permission. If the original artist wants the base taken down I will have no objections to this.

As Aqua999 once posted "I'm not going to start another squarrel in comments on this journal, I just want to express my opinion. Which doesn't say that tracing is a good thing. No. I mostly agree with all of the people who say it's stealing, it's agains rules, it's just simply wrong. But tracing is also a good way to learn anathomy (here, you can say, learning anathomy on your own is better, not learning on someone else's work, someone's who worked hard on them), to have fun (no, not fun in stealing, but fun in tracing, creating something 'new' from something that already exists), to show your idea for some pic (here I mean more editing than tracing itself).

The ones who say that traced base makers should be reported and their accounts should be disactived, have right at some points. But it doesn't mean they have to report and go mad on all of them.

We all know we should credit original artists, but please, understand, it's simply impossible most of the times. When we-- or should I just say I-- when I find an art that I want to make base of, I usually can't find original artist's name anywhere on the site or art, so I'm unable to find him or her, to ask about permission to use their work for a base. But I don't want it to stop me from using the art anyway. Sure, most of people may say, that it actually SHOULD stop me from using it. But some would not.
Internet is something that gives people rights-- but it also takes rights away. When you post something, and it's good, you can be sure, that sooner or later someone will steal it, copy it, repost it. When you publicate anything, you should reckon with it, or write with big fucking letters THIS ART WAS DONE BY [...].

World is unfair. We all know it. You can fight with it, but start from serial killers, not people who trace arts. They just can make poeple feel bad, but they won't hurt them.
If original artists will be found, and they'll ask me to delete base done out of their work, I will."

And as another user "Telelia" once posted: I had an art teacher once tell me the greatest honor an artist will have is when another copies their work.
-It means its a good piece of work
-It means it inspired somebody else, even if traced
-It means somebody is paying attention and that the original artist should be thrilled, and thus make more art...

With this being said, I honestly don't have an issue. Traced art is like taking apart somebody else's idea, and making it into something else.

Note: To the artist of this picture; if you do not want this picture to be used please notify me and I will gladly take it down.

You put all that time into the tutorial and writing that [probably painfully long] artist's description...And yet people still call you a thief and all that. =_= Geez.

Anyways, thanks for this tutorial. I agree with you about learning anatomy from tracing. That's how I've learned to do hair and such somewhat decently. ^^

I understand some people do not agree with traced bases but its not done with the intent of ripping off from the whole picture.

From the first time I started pixeling I was very VERY terrible, and although I still am no where near what I think is awesome I believe that I have come a long way.

And your welcome; I'm glad that some people do appreciate this tutorial ^^

True, true, though sometimes bases to include hair and such. People seem to get mad at that. I think it's better to use a base than to just draw over the picture directly, because then you have some sense of originality. Am I right?

And you're welcome too, I can't help but to appreciate something someone worked for so long on! ^^

Hi, I kinda used your guide to trace two pictures which made two of my arts. They're here;

Yoruichi: [link]
So anyways, I was wondering that since I used your guide to make this, you might know if the traces I made are good or not?
Sorry to bother you!

PS: I really loved your guide. It was awesome!

oh, a tutorial on how to steal and edit other people's hard work. Lovely.

Why did you spend time wasted on this practicing to improve your own art instead of ripping off others?

Actually, you shouldn't use a picture if you can't get permission from the original artist. It's called stealing.

Well, if you do say that if she/he gets... you know? Your gonna have to delete that base...
