Description This is my animation of a bird that I did in my first year of animation uni. It was required to take off, link into a flight cycle and then land. This was a very frustrating project, birds hard to draw flying! I had problems with proportions near the end because I rushed it. :s

thanks. anyone can do animation, dont have to wait til uni. if you got flash, or even post-its, you can animate.

Post its are better practice, as long as they dont come apart.

Flash is an expensive program and its very difficult. You should have experiance before getting it.

oh I cant imagine how hard that would be, trying to keep a smooth flow to all that motion going on with wings

your animations are so amazing!! i wish i could do that kind of animations.. i quess you have some special paper for these..

AngelCrusher In reply to Lintufriikki [2006-12-22 13:59:02 +0000 UTC]

thank you very much for the kind words.
Nah, no special paper. Whatever you buy for your printers, the low quality crappy stuff, thats what I used. Cant afford to use special paper. lol

hey,I was wondering how you did these kinds of 2d animations did you erase and draw erase and draw or do you have 2 papers? or..? XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to loiter [2006-12-04 19:49:58 +0000 UTC]

lol Nah, lots of paper. Couldnt imagine rubbing all these frames out and just doing it on two pieces of paper. I recenetly just finished one animation that has about 500 drawings, but once I did the rough animation, I had to redraw them on a new piece of paper so they just had one crisp outline, so in total had about 1000 drawings for that project. I then coloured it on the computer, so watch out for it in the upcoming future.

CrooklynScriptures In reply to ??? [2006-12-02 18:49:21 +0000 UTC]

so u didnt use flash to make this?

with a tablet and ur skill, it will be "wow"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to CrooklynScriptures [2006-12-02 19:29:15 +0000 UTC]

nah. Its a converted avi in flash, because I havent got a gif editor, and my computer doesnt play gifs anyway, so it looks better in flash. I have done flash animation once before though, I'll submit it later in the future, but never used a tablet for it. Maybe over christmas I'll play with it abit more though.

But yeh, I'm studying to become a proper traditional 2D animator, just pencils and papers. lol

CrooklynScriptures In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-12-04 21:51:26 +0000 UTC]

traditional is what i want to do, maybe a blend between tablet and traditional somehow... only future will tell i guess

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to CrooklynScriptures [2006-12-04 22:03:47 +0000 UTC]

sounds to me like you would prefer animating in flash. Its a computer animation program and you can draw straight into it with a tablet. Its kinda the future of 2D animation, as if its our only option to get a job unless you work in disney or cartoon network.

CrooklynScriptures In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-12-04 22:10:42 +0000 UTC]

oh i know about flash im saying maybe after i master traditional, i can be better at flash . i have a tablet, but that lost use wit my flash skills (stick figures are boring) and only is used for digital coloring

tenmatentei In reply to ??? [2006-12-01 02:45:41 +0000 UTC]

I like it I try to do animations, but whenever I do it, the animations jump around too much. I guess that's because my paper isn't transparent

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to tenmatentei [2006-12-01 10:16:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks buddy. Its not transparent paper you need, you need a lightbox. Buy one cheaply, or use your scanner. When the light is on, just use it to help yo see through your paper. Keep the drawings quite close together to avoid jumping around too much.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tenmatentei In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-12-02 04:12:20 +0000 UTC]

OH. Hehe. I think I'll give the scanner idea a try sometime after I finish up the rest of my tasks. Thanks for the info, buddy

Bluthan In reply to ??? [2006-11-28 06:17:08 +0000 UTC]

It must be really great to see one of your drawings moving. It's probably nothing if you do it a lot, but for me, who never did anything like that it still seems magical.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to Bluthan [2006-11-28 12:56:32 +0000 UTC]

Thats how I felt before I got into animation. When you start drawing, even when we just did cars driving around, it was awesome. The best is when you do create a character and animate it. Its just amazing. I start animating a new character thursaday until christmas actually. Cant wait.

Leo-Taku In reply to ??? [2006-11-26 12:18:12 +0000 UTC]

How'd you keep the background consistent in the first scene? That's not drawn on the same page as the bird, is it?

Nice animation.
I don't draw birds at all, let alone animated ones. I think you did a great job animating it. I like the pecking at the end. It adds more life to the animal.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to Leo-Taku [2006-11-27 00:34:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks alot man. Yeh, I think I was one of the only people to make the animals in general do something different than just stop. Thought it would add more character.

As for the background, hell no! lol Couldnt draw that over and over again! ^_^
On our animation program and camera, we are able to shoot levels of animation, so that was just one drawing for the background held to the end.

Leo-Taku In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-11-30 13:39:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I noticed you did that on the cat animation too. It's a great touch.

Ah. OK.
Was it an animation cel, or something different? The animation setup at my school only filmed one level. The option to use cels was there, but I never used it myself.

You're welcome.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to Leo-Taku [2006-11-30 18:37:31 +0000 UTC]

Nah, we dont use cels, too expensive. All we do is animation on paper, since computer programs can now immitate a cell look. So the background would be paper, the animation is also paper. Basically the computer programs sets the animation to 'multiply' like on photoshop so that all the gaps are see through.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leo-Taku In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-11-30 23:38:07 +0000 UTC]

Ah! You use the computer! OK, I gotcha.
My high school only had paper, cels, and a regular video camera (set to Frame Record, or something like that. It takes one picture each time you press the button).
