Description Another of my tutorials. I FORGOT TO SAY! If you use butter, make sure its unsalted. The salt will kill the yeast and make it not rise as well.

Once you have the dough rounded, you can make it into any shape. You can put it into a bread pan and make bread, cut the dough into pieces and roll them into buns, roll it into a cylinder and make a French loaf, anything

You can also use milk instead of water for richer bread, or milk instead of the egg wash.

All except the oven temp. The oven is set to 400f, while the water you want at 25c, and the proofer at 35c

Does it taste exactly like bread?

Oh yes! None of that "wonderbread" shit. The great thing is this is the basic recipe, and it can be modded to make all kinds of other breads. Like you can add molasses and whole wheat flour and get brown bread, or you can let the yeast sit over night and get a sour dough. Make sure you do the basic recipe first, and then look for other recipes before you get creative. Gotta make sure the proportions are right (whole wheat flour needs more liquid for example, and raisins add moisture ect ect).

But yeah, home made bread is the best, and there is no substitute for it!

I love the smell of bread. What about whole grain bread? Also, do you suggest making it by hand and putting it in the oven, or does a bread machine do the same job only faster?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelicAdonis In reply to yeahgirl11 [2011-06-19 04:02:35 +0000 UTC]

Whole grain flour needs more liquid than all purpose flour. Otherwise the bread will be hard and dry.

I would say by hand.

Bread machines are cool, but they are more a gimmick than anything. We had one, but it burned out. Then we got a new one...and it burned out. If you use them more than once a year they break To that point, they cost upwards of $200, but your hands are always free!

Machines always make loaves the same way, but if you use your hands you can make loaves, bung, baguettes, clovers, eppiloves ect ect.

lol. But yeah, darlin, you should know man is always better than a machine (if only in the kitchen)!

How much more water? (or liquid I should say)

Wow, complete rip! Thanks for the advice. I like to work with my hands anyways, and I think making bread by hand would be funner.

Lol!

You have to let me know how your bread turns out!

Also, if you do not have bread pans, you can make round loaves on a cookie sheet

Oh I can't cook for the life of me. The only things I can really do in the kitchen are fried eggs or instant noodles... but maybe I'll keep this recipe close for when I feel courageous.

Thanks man!

Kinda cool how thousands of years of human history has perfected the simple art of making bread. Almost every culture has some kind of it.

Every ancient culture seems to have their own version depite having never(supposedly) been in contact with each other.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelicAdonis In reply to Rogue284 [2010-05-24 04:22:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah pretty much. Its cultural co-evolution. Even though miles separate them they find out the same thing.

Kinda cool, because they didnt have yeast, they put fruit skins in the dough. The yeast that naturally clings to the skin would activate in the dough and cause rising

Rogue284 In reply to AngelicAdonis [2010-05-24 05:45:42 +0000 UTC]

wow, didn't know that!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelicAdonis In reply to Rogue284 [2010-05-25 00:49:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, its pretty cool. If you have ever seen that dusty stuff on fruit, thats yeast.

Its kinda cool with fermentation as well. Like mead for example is carbonated beer AKA Liquid bread.
