Description
Since I've been in army for this whole year, (!!!!!) I haven't had the time to go and see my sister's new apartment. But now that I'm all free and stuff I'll go and see that dump tomorrow. I thought I'd make a portrait of her and her screaming potato (= read "child") so that I could give at least something to her (I don't wan't to buy stuff since I'm poor and a cheap bastard). I used a photo( taken in Monaco) as a reference to get some likeness to them but I'd have preferred to use my own lineart for that. I shall try to draw them from life on the next weekend to fix this. This is just one of those pics that I made to practice something and this time I practiced the use of canvas texture and using brushes that use the depth of texture. I tried to keep the pen pressure low so that the pigment only touched the "peaks" of the texture in some parts. I liked doing that since it allows for some optical colour mixing as there's no need to use transparent or blending brushes. I mostly used my own variants of oil pastels and added some fluidity to those ramdom brush strokes with wet acrylics. I have a problem of overworking with my pics and I tried to avoid it here because it would have ruined the whole style I was aiming for. (no edits even if you think it's messy I think it's messy and I'm happy about it so there!) If I make a style experiment for too long it has the danger of starting to look like all my oher pictures. '__'() That child screams so much it's not even funny.painter 8 again

"I know quite a few good ways how to get rid of children or make them quiet."
Yes, like locating them to the nearest trashcan for example?
Your sister will love this 'cause this looks really good.
Too much goodie-lookieness in da piccy and stuff. You shouldn't let people see these first thing in the morning though, it's depressing. x_x

opaque-ness= opacity. Silly english!
Well, the two of them look very pretty. I'm sorry your niece screams incessently. I've got two little cousins who are very noisy (not so much screaming as yelling, shouting, alughing, and running around) and they do get hard to take...

Yeah yeah I know I'm feeling too lazy to search for my dictionary since it must be meters away from me. I know quite a few good ways how to get rid of childeren or make them quiet.

I like the fact that your sister and 'the screming potato' are rich in detail and fully drawn in opposite to the background where everything looks more or less unfinished. It brings out the two in the picture really nicely!
And I like the style - rich in color with traces of bright and pure colors instead of a work where everything in smudged into something brownish. (like my own oil pastel works from High School times...)

I think full opaque-ness (making my own words again sorry, sorry!) is one of the advantageness of cg and I don't accidentally smudge areas that I don't want to (this has SO happened to me).

OMG! How? Why? Where?
This is just a fabulous picture. I canΒ΄t and donΒ΄t want to even think about all the work and sweat while you were doing this. I dont know how do you bring that feeling of fast movement in to the picture, but my, it is a great job!
