Description This is one of the bridge paintings that probably won't be seen in my schools exhibition. Why? Well I guess the colours and the subject ended up being a bit too "pretty" in an old-lady-in-a-flowery-hat kinda way.

But that doesn't meant that I don't like this painting, oh no. I like it very much. I remember being very angry and exhausted when painting this. I'm glad it's my final weekend before the images go to print so I can take it easier when it comes to painting. (note: this means that maybe I'll paint only 8hrs/day for a few days)

I can't believe the amounts off bullshit and prejudice I've had to endure because I'm doing my final year work digitally. I'm so glad I got a very VERY good teacher to support me through all this. I never wanted to annoy anyone with my technique. I just want to paint pretty pictures. I try not care about people who still think I just press a button and paintings come flying out of a computer. Even worse are the types who think all digital art is painted on photographs. Just what would be the point of that I ask? A painting shouldn't be compared to a photograph because a good artist can use brush strokes , colour and his imagination to create images and rhythm that can be something totally unique.

Sorry if this sounds angry but after that I guess I won't have to tell you what the title "EXIT" means.

I designed this for big print size so there are plenty of detail you can't see. I used oil pastels to create layers of contrasting colours to give more weight to important areas. I should post some details in my future journal or something.

Original resolution is 10 000x 7000+ pixels. at 500dpi.

There's actually a story behind some tree shapes but I'm running out of your reader patience, at least my parents will get it...maybe.

Even if you were angry then, this will still remain a very beautiful exit

People critisised you for doing your stuff digitally? Wow that kinda shock's me since I had a friend who did the exact same thing and everyone was estatic about it.

Well anyway, absolutely gorgeous image. I especially love the messy flow to the leaves.

Thank you, it's a shame I didn't have this one printed in huge scale because I think there's so much texture to be seen in this painting it's a shame it can't be experienced in web format.

Beautiful painting and *sigh* sadly I understand the whole "is it really art" question, I'm so sick of having to explain to the organisers of my local art show that digital paintings are indeed art and no I did not use magic filters and yes I actually painted the image and no using a computer does not make it easier and if they really want me to prove it I'll bring in my laptop and tablet and paint in front of them if they really insist.

"Original resolution is 10 000x 7000+ pixels. at 500dpi." Hollyy...!! you must have one monster computer there! And from the brush destription, I assume you used Painter too?... wow, may i ask what computer you have?

Holy cow, "Original resolution is 10 000x 7000+ pixels. at 500dpi."!

What kind of computer do you have? Mine starts lagging A LOT at a mere 2000x1500-ish size.. (then again, my pc might be getting too old for big stuff)

Very nice work, I love it.

Actually this piece of s*** is about 4 years old now and believe me that lagging you're talking about happens to me too. While doing the final edits for my exhibition pieces I made a n action in photoshop and the went to play REZ for 15 minutes while my computer was doing it's stuff. And this thing won't even BE in the exhibition! Oh well at least I can make some kick ass prints out of it.

chah, everything's already been said. well, I guess this is what I get from not logging onto dA for weeks...
anyways, read all the comments above and compress them into one and you'll get what I wanted to say...
minus any criticism since I can't think of anything that would make this better than it already is.

*angrymikko is a total fan of Hideyoshi's paintings*

You shouldn't be so hard on your own quick paintings because I think they are brilliant often as good as your detailed pieces. I especially adore your newest piece [link] and I don't think it needs a single dab of a brush to look more finished.

Wow that IS a load of bullshit you've had to put up with Are they envious because they feel that digital painting is leaving them in the shadows with their traditional work or what? Jeez. Anyways, I really like the vivid colors you used here. Your painting style is almost impressionistic and I think not at all old-lady-in-a-flowery-hat-ish.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

angrymikko In reply to KVirtanen [2008-03-08 11:09:40 +0000 UTC]

I think it has more to do with the fact that everyone thinks doing paintings like this is easy. And some think I'll stop painting with oils because I also do digital work. I don't see it that black and white. There are things I can do with oils that I can NOT do with digital media and I love painting alla prima. But I also can do thing with digital media that is simply impossible to do with traditional means. Many criticize digital media for the lack of texture but that's not really true digital colours can be as rich as oils but the vibrancy has to be achieved in a different way. When my big prints arrived I also found that how beautiful flat and textured digital brushes can look like.

Thanks for liking the painting. Sorry for the rant I'm worse than the pope.

i think this is wonderfully done. I understand what you feel about "old lady in flowery hat" but i do like it very much. I think I see people dancing in the trees, but maybe I'm searching. Your detail looks very good on the water and the bridge, I wish your lamppost was different though. I feel like it would be more intricate, and not bendy but a straight victorian lamppost. I also think you'd benefit from the light hitting the boat a little more from the lamp, it looks like it would hit that far, and I think your lighting on the bridge might be a little cold. But thats just me being picky, I really love it.
