Description Every day, they all hang out to find out what they talk about.

Back in September, Channel 4 released the first six episodes of the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared TV series. Based on the acclaimed internet series, the show follows the adventures of three individuals learning life lessons. There's the calm and reserved Red Guy, the childish Yellow Guy, and the talkative Duck. In the six episodes that are currently available, the characters learn about what it's like having a job, experiencing death and its impact on others, being a proper family, maintaining healthy friendships, the wonders of transportation, and how technology may or may not make life easier. Of course, the lessons don't go in a straight line, mostly because of the unnatural, bizarre mannerisms of the teachers discussing the topic.

Because this show airs on Channel 4, that means it's exclusive to the British. That prompted several people to upload the episodes onto YouTube so that those outside of England can have access to them. As an American, that meant I was able to see the episodes on YouTube, and as someone who is a fan of the internet series, the TV show was such a treat. In fact, I think I like the TV series more than the internet series, mainly because it managed to take the basic concept of the show and stretch it to 22 minutes without having feeling padded out, and making good use of its shock value without feeling like it's phoned in. If I had to pick my favorite episodes, they would be episode 1, "Jobs", and episode 4, "Friendship". I like these episodes the most because they feature some of my favorite bits of humor and twists in the franchise. In fact, my favorite moment in the show has to be the ending of "Friendship", as it gave me some of the hardest laughs in months (I won't say what it is, because going into it blind is the best way to see it). I can't wait to see what's in store for the future, because with so many life lessons in the world, I'm sure Don't Hug Me I'm Scared can give a comedic and horrific twist to them.

Now onto the artwork!

If there's one thing Don't Hug Me I'm Scared is known for, it's the way it tries to implement multiple mediums of animation into its episodes. The dominant medium is puppetry, but in some instances, the show might contain scenes of flash animation, stop-motion, etc. It's like the animation of The Amazing World of Gumball, but on a (probably?) tighter budget. Now that I think about it, I just realized that both of these shows were made in Europe. Going back on topic, because each of these different animation mediums have a distinctive style, that got me wondering "How would the characters look if I drew them?" The overall image you're seeing is a combination of the character designs and my drawing style. I say that they mesh with each other pretty well, mainly because each one of them is highly distinguishable, which is further fueled by my intention of making sure the characters express their main personality.

To create the background, I first put in two blocks with different shades of blue. The main setting of the artwork is supposed to be inside a house, and in order to emphasize on that, I decided to add in that white wall border, which actually serves two purposes: making it clear where the image is set and hiding the imperfections of where the two colors meet. To create the shadows on the characters, I made two silhouettes: one for the back, and one to go on the characters. For the shadows on the characters, after I made a silhouette of the characters, I made it slightly larger than the characters, so that I can select the layer with the colors and erase whatever part of the silhouette is in the selected area. Once I deleted what wasn't desired, I shrunk the silhouette (or rather whatever's left of it) to the size of the characters, and made it slightly transparent, so that in the end, the characters look like there's legitimate shading on them.

That's all I got to say here. Hope you like it, and what are your thoughts on the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared TV series?
