My last Omniart contest entry. With this, I'll either win gold, silver or bronze, and with all of them I'll be happy. We were asked to create a scene from a game and give it elements of a real-life musical with a similar scene. This is The Dance in Final Fantasy 8 with a heavy influence of the masquerade ball in Phantom of the Opera. Starring Rinoa as Christine, Squall as Raoul, and Seifer as the Phantom.Related content

PS: My only problem is that Squall's eyes should be blue, but it's so miniscule that I had to add a post-script comment! Really, it's that miniscule!

I'm as sure as I can be that they're blue. Raine's eyes were blue, and he resembles her more than Laguna (who's eyes were green, if I remember right.) You could probly' find some of the CG's on youtube if you wanted to double-check.

Although now that I think about it, if I saw cutscenes and stuff, I must have known that. ^^
Maybe I made them brown because I prefer him with brown eyes? I know I do that with Link.
Even though Link has blue eyes, I always draw him with purple eyes because I think that looks better on him.

Eh, that's fine. I'm not one to be knit-picky about things (don't really consider myself a "fanboy" or anything) but I'll usually note it just for the sake of it. Brown eyes or blue, still a great piece.

Beautiful piece! It has a smooth, yet vintage feel to it. It's very intricate and detailed (such as on the twirls of the hair of the woman on the left) but at the same time it seems very simple, such as with the solid colors of the dresses and the curtains in the backdrop.
This is just a very complete, well-executed, unique idea. You took a key moment from (what is in my opinion) a great story, and put it into the context of something that everyone can at least some way relate to (who hasn't heard of the Phantom of the Opera?)
Really, great piece of work here.

One thing that I thought was really cool about this, is that the girl on the left looks an aweful lot like Quistis, especially the color and style of the dress. Same goes with the girl in yellow. She looks like she could be Selphie. It looks very similar to the yellow number she wears in the game! Was that intended? If not, then that's a miraculous coincidence!

Well, I usually use multiple programs, but it's not so much the program as having a good imagination. No program will help someone if they 1) don't know how to use it, and 2) can't put their ideas down.

I love your picture. The shading and everything is wonderful...I can not even imagine drawing half as good as you do.

[link] , although they're down at the moment. Then you need to get an ftp program and follow their directions to head over to their ftp server. It's literally packed with people who have massive collections of game music. Just look around the site, when it comes back up.
