Description
Another one of my Visual Arts 3D projects. In order to prove to our teacher that we can sew (a little silly in my case, but oh well), we had to each make a plushie. I went a little overkill... ^_^ I've never made a plushie before in my life, but I like how he turned out.I didn't actually paint it at first (and it was tinted blue from the pen I used to mark the felt), but I painted it for sale at the Mom's Weekend Craft Fair to benefit the Raptor Club. It's pictured with the little info card that it will come with, with bonus drawing by the artist (pfft...).
You don't really see a whole lot of realistic owl (or bird, really) plushies, so here we have a barn owl, vaguely based on Widget , one of the birds I work with. He's such a cutie.
Anyways, this plush is more of a display piece than a toy. His wings and legs are wired so that they are somewhat poseable, but I'm not so sure how he'd hold up to a lot of handling.

That is absolutely gorgeous!
You're right, it's rare to see a realistic style plush. I love the shape, especially the wings. And you did a beautiful job painting it.
Whoever took this plush home was very lucky indeed!

Thank you so much! I was very sad to see this little guy go, and ever since I've had tons of requests to revisit him. So maybe he'll have a little sibling sometime in the near future.

Barn owls are so amazing. And this is a beautiful plushie! I like how you built the wings and painted him. It's very realistic. And the expression from the front is priceless.

Thank you! ^_^ I couldn't find any realistic owl plushies, so I wanted to make something that actually looked like what it was supposed to be. After it was sold, the club asked me if I'd be making more for next year... 0_o

He is a happy little guy
You should think about making a 'how to; on barn owl plushie making
I use to volunteer at a zoo and did falconry. I often flew a barn owl named Opey. Always amazed at how soft they were... and how small under all the floof about their head.

I might, actually. I've been sort of wanting to make a tutorial, and there's someone who wants to buy one.
Sounds fun! Most of our birds either can't fly or else would hurt themselves (because they're blind) if they did, so I've never done that before. I usually blow on Widget's head or feel his keel to show people how fluffy he is. Under that, he's so scrawny!

I actually get to work with a number of birds, one of which is a barn owl, for which I am very grateful. If you ever get the chance to work with birds of prey, you should take it! They're really fascinating birds.

It's usually hard to get jobs working with birds, that's one of the reasons I came to my university. Here we have the Raptor Club, which is rare and unique in that anyone who joins gets to start handling and working with the animals right away. Sounds like you have a nice happy little family, though! ^_^

How tall is it? If not would you be able to sell it to me?
I don't have a lot of money I am unemployed but Barn owls are my favorite owl
I can send you a money order or a check
Here is a link to the Barn Owl I painted please take a look[link]

I am not actually sure if the Club sold the plushie or not, but I emailed them and asked. If it's not already sold, it should be easy enough to arrange. And it's only $10, so I don't think it'll break the bank. Besides all of which, it'll be paid for in the form of a donation to the club, so it'll be tax deductible! It's about 7 inches tall.
I really like that painting, it's very expressive, and the owl looks so gentle. ^_^

Well, it seems that the plushie did actually sell, but!- I have had a request to do a tutorial on how to make one, and since I didn't take pictures the first time, I will probably have to make another one. If you like, for a minimum $10 donation to the WSU Raptor Club plus shipping and handling, I will make you one.

Thank you, I guess. Except, Hedwig is a snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus) -link - and this is a barn owl (Tyto alba)-link . They're not even members of the same family, as snowy owls are strigidaes and barn owls are tytonidaes.
