Cellmates Alyssa and Samantha thought their plan was perfect, as the daughter of a mob boss, and a con-woman, respectively. Neither of them were particularly prepared or enthused about the hard labor they had been sentenced to. However Samantha had quickly realized that batting her eyelashes could be a more effective way of breaking rocks, than swinging a pickaxe. Samantha's target was Katherine, a former mercenary and smuggler, who with some heavy flirting could usually be convinced to finish the girls work for them during their lunch break.

However, in recent weeks Alyssa had noticed, that Samantha and Katherine's chat sessions were taking up more, and more of their break time, leaving them with more, and more work to do by themselves. In addition to this Samantha had also become much more fussy about her appearance, and now would barely risk muddying her boots while digging. The warden had noticed their drop off in productivity too, and had questioned Alyssa about it. She couldn't let slip the truth, that Katherine had been doing most of their work for them. So she came up with what she was a convenient excuse about how her denim uniform was making her overheat in the hot weather. When she saw the wardens smile at her answer she instantly regretted it, even more so when she saw his solution. An embarrassingly skimpy prototype uniform, that drew glances from guards, and mockery from her fellow convicts in equal measure.

Alyssa knew prison could change people, but she never expected Samantha's ice cold heart to melt so quickly in the desert heat, or for an experienced con-woman to end up falling for her own mark. Snitching on the pair was against the code she was brought up on, and any threat was out of the question unless she wanted to incur Katherine's wrath. No, her only option was just to keep digging by herself, and hope Samantha's laughter was due to Katherine's jokes, rather than her new uniform. Although she suspected the two options could be related.
