Description The dank back alley was like thousands of others on Bakuchel 7; quiet and secluded.  The representative of the Spiderbot Empire's Product Development Group still could not help looking around nervously as the buyer approached however.  If he was caught it would go badly for him.

The buyer's species was one the representative had not seen before, but in a galaxy of millions of sentient species that was not remarkable.  His name didn't really matter either.  All that was important was the money he was willing to lay down for the merchandise.

"This is one of the medicinal lipid producers?" he growled, eying the Terran female with doubt.

"Yes, and it wasn't easy to sneak her out of the clone farm." the representative replied.

"Surprising.  I thought you people made hundreds of these at a time in huge batches."

"We do, but security is tight.  The Queen Mothers do not like it when rival companies manage to get their hands on corporate assets and reverse engineer them.  I had to go to great lengths to get even one.  Which is why the price is so steep.  Speaking of which ..."  He motioned the being closer and the buyer held out a credit disk.

She looks pissed.  Do the clones have the memories of the originals?

Interesting question.  I'd not thought about it.  However I guess the aliens clone the raw scaffolding bio matter types (muscle, tendons, bone, etc) in mass vats then use a 3d printer type thing to build the infrastructure.  Sort of like how they built Lilou in the Fifth Element.  Organs (including the brain) are assembled separately then added to the body one by one.  The brain is assembled ganglion by ganglion from vats of mass printed ganglion.

As I understand it, memories and personality are basically derived from the specific manner that ganglion connect with each other and light each other up.  When the brains are assembled they are all wired identically.  So long story short I think they would have the same memories and personality as the original (up until the moment their brains were scanned and the ganglion connections were mapped that is).  They all must think they are the originals too.

Impressive that the spider bots would think to clone their small group of captures...  Truly impressive.

Thanks!  Yes, they realized early on they needed a lot of sources for their materials.

Thanks!  Corporate espionage on a galactic scale using Terran females as the product ...  It's a scenario that's rife with possibilities I think.
