Description
This is a little bit of a revisit to an old idea – “Orbit” was originally just me mucking about but became very popular for prints and publishing – however I never really thought that much about it at the time (I was literally just sketching space art as a bit of fun between projects). I loved the idea of the piece so now, 8 years on I've had another stab at it.
“A highly advanced race builds an enormous spaceport off the coast of a continent, dwafing the 20km high skyscrapers on the land, the main structure brushing the cloud layers with near 100km diameter docking spurs surrounding it. Built above the main structure, another level that is beyond the atmosphere – allowing craft to dock without braving the weather on the planet”

About 20-22 hour work.
I used some great photos of Earth from space as reference for the world.

Very pretty. It reminds me of a really cool episode of Outlaw Star. Well, all the episodes were really cool, but this one had an orbiter station that was connected to the planet. 
Anyway, I may have thought of this before, but it just occurred in my mind again. All that concrete would weigh quite a bit, no argue about that. However, the higher a mass gets from sea level, the lighter it becomes. Do you think such a structure may be possible, if built high enough to lose enough weight compared to sea level? o.0
