Hi! Something new today. It's a portrait! I asked this girl to pose for me in August, and now I'm finally ready to show colored painting of the headΒI'm a beginner at portraits, but I'm trying my best to develop this valuable skill. Of course, I added a few mushroom silhouettes as well, because painting without mushrooms is frightening. What do you think?

I just can't believe you jumped right into this! All your hard work is consistently paying off, and even though I'm sure you still want to go much further, I can tell you that you're going to fly to those goals!
In particular, your attention to the texture of the skin (especially teh pores) is remarkable, and your control of the light is enviable. No doubt your landscaping painting has lent you invaluable skills!

By the way... only now I read the description so sorry. My last message sounds like the "character" is a character and not a real person... so thats the reason. Oh yes! I think you reached a new level in character painting. The hair looks very natural, the skin looks really good. Often people paint it to shiny. The painting "shows action" because you decided to let her eyes look in a different direction as the body looks. You implemented mushrooms to stress your own style and the rendering is very good. I can really feel the texture difference between the skin and the clothing.
Two little things I ve noticed: The point, where the light hits the hair looks a little (just a little) smudjed or blured? I dont know whether I use the right words here... but there you could shape the single hairs a bit cleaner.
And the second thing (but that is very subjective opinion and not a mistake) for me, the forehead is a bit to long. Just a little bit, a slightly touch maybe two millimeters...
Ah yes, and I miss the eyelashes. Thats it. It is not the forehead its the eyelashes.
(I do not delete my first thoughts, so you can see in which order I noticed certain things.)
All in all: This is the best portrait (character) you ever did! Β

By the way, thanks for the notes! I think both of them are the matter of taste though, because that girl has really high forehead IRL, and hair with higher amount of small details could divert the attention of the viewer from more important areas. Ah and by the way. Yesterday I watched a little mushroom documentation in gherman TV and there are mushrooms which have vitamin D which we get normally only by the sun. Furthermore these mushrooms have vitamin B12 only meat contains. That was very interesting. I don't know whether you knew that, but for me it was a really cool new fact. -> mushrooms are special.

Yes. But one little question I really have. The eyelashes. Has the girl really not so "striking" eyelashes?. I would like to go back to that, because you said you want to focus the parts in the face.( You said it not directly but I interpreted you mean that) Am I right?
So eyelashes would draw attention to the eyes.
