The bottom one is very true, but the top one doesn't make any sense at all! Please explain.

Some people (at an increasing rate) believe in the existence of some sort of supernatural creator or being, but don't care for the dogmatic rituals of organized religions.
Deists are a good example of this, people who believe that there is a God, but that it is an impersonal one, more like a force of nature than a conscious entity. Deists tend not to pray, because they don't see much point in it. To suggest that the thing in charge of the entire infinite universe cares about the day-to-day lives and selfish squabbles of the beings living on the speck of cosmic dust that is this planet, is absurd to them.

Well, actually, when you get right down to it, you don't need to *believe* in evolution either. Let me explain:
1. Belief implies faith, which in turn implies a lack of evidence - something that evolution, in actuality, has plenty of.
2. You don't need to *believe* in something to *know* something exists. Gravity exists whether you believe in it or not (and feel free to try jumping off a cliff to prove it doesn't). Another example would be that you don't need to *believe* that there's another human being living, say, on the other side of the country or on the other side of the planet, to *know* that he/she exists. Not sure what the exact philosophical term is, but it basically deals with this concept.
Semantics aside, you still have a valid point.

I am well aware of the fact that believing in something has no bearing upon the truth of its existence.
I don't recall who said it, but there is a saying that "Science is true whether you believe it or not." ^^

True that. Pity that most people seem to be incapable of understanding that.

I'm not sure what you mean by the first sentence, besides trying to make it support the last sentence. The definition of "religious" is "believing and/or worshipping a deity", nothing other than that.

what if a person believes in god (in an abstract form) but does not attend church or any type of religious congregation?

It simply means that you believe in a higher power; just because you're too lazy or too unmotivated to do anything with your beliefs, it doesn't make you less religious.

I know a person who believes in god in an abstract form but believes the organized religion is the most dangerous thing that humanity has ever invented. you don't have to follow a religion to believe that god exists.
and I'm trying to be polite here. please don't yell when someone disagrees with you.

I'm a Christian, but I personally believe in evolution? Why? Well, the Bible indicates that God tends to be subtle, and He only gets directly involved in things when He feels that He has to. So, the way I see it, God basically kick-started the universe, and then for the most part let it build itself. When it came to the beginning of life, God set off the spark that made the very first life-form, and then let the natural principles of evolution take over from there.
