Sometime after part 6 came out, I decided to watch Jacksepticeye's playthrough. While I was preparing for the weirdest this series had to offer, what I was not expecting was this thing to appear out of nowhere! Initially, I thought it was some kind of blob creature wearing a mask (like No Face from Spirited Away). But getting a better look at the creature, I was surprised that it was some kind of humanoid pig/cow with a ballerina motif, named in the game files as 'The Nanny'.

While I don't really consider Garten of Banban as a horror game per se, it is still really good at giving the player a sense of dread in the form of liminal space type environments as well as moments where the player feels safe only to have something jump out and prove them wrong. Honestly, The Nanny seems to embody both of these elements: you enter an alcove that, while resembling a cozy house, is almost completely in darkness. Then as soon as you pick up the lights you need for the drone, she starts to slowly approach you while you are frozen in place. After die and respawn, where the lights were is now replaced with a book; and you have to go further into the room to get the lights again. The whole thing feels like an encounter with a sleep paralysis demon: it's sudden, feels slow despite only lasting a few seconds and once it's over you start to question if that really happened.

Part of me hopes that we'll learn about The Nanny in later installments. But if we don't, then that's fine too. Because she's an anomaly, and anomalies lose their effect if we can explain them away.
