Description
My recently purchased SPAS-12 shotgun. The first firearm I've always wanted ever since seeing it in Jurassic Park when I was 7 years old. It's in the most desireable/collectable configuration with the folding metal stock, hook, full-length magazine tube, forward front sight blade and most importantly the updated push-button safety.
>_> and yes its real not airsoft, cost me an arm and a leg price wise.

What!?!?! SO JEALOUS!!!!!! Of course, there is the new Tri-Star shotgun that does semi-auto and pump modes, but the SPAS-12 just can't be beat! MUST HAVE IN MY COLLECTION!!!

OH YEAH! REAL DEAL SPAS-12! Who could ever forget seeing that gun in The Terminator and Jurassic Park?
By the way, I'm converting from Call of Duty to Battlefield because the multiplayer allows vehicular combat as opposed to just infantry grunt work in COD. But COD Singleplayer has the better stories/storylines. (And COD 9 trailer is coming out May 9th on TNT!)! But the real message is that for all you SPAS-12 lovers, runners and gunners, that in the Battlefield 3 Close Quarters Battles DLC, MR. SPAS WILL RETURN!
To the COD AND BF FANS AND THE NEW WORLD PEACE!

A damn fine weapon, how does it handle? And how much of a kick does it deliver?

The SPAS-12 is heavy with the metal folding stock, wouldn't be fun to lug around for hunting.
Since it is heavy the recoil isn't bad with bird shot and what not, but with 00 buckshot and slugs, you have to be careful not to slice your cheek with the metal edge of the folding stock since there is that habit of pressing your cheek against the stock with regular shotguns.

Yup, 100% real manufactured by the Luigi Franci factory.
When I was younger I had the Tokyo Marui SPAS-12 but sold it on eBay after I got out of airsoft and into real guns.

You can find them on online gun auctions. Gunbroker.com has the most options/listings.
I picked mine up on a forum though for a little cheaper than what you can find on Gunbroker because the sellers either have a set Buy-it-Now price or the final bid goes really high.

Do you have to be 18 in order to bid? 'Cause I know I am.

It depends on your state since legal age can be different, from 18 to 21 I believe.
Also when you bid and win, you have to go through the process of having a local gun dealer with the right FFL license to be the "middle-man" for transfer. Sellers won't ship a firearm to a residential home.
Best of luck on the bidding, nothing like getting more and more guns.

Does this mean I have to be in like Arizona in order to leagally own it? I live win Walnut Creek, CA I read somewhere on L4D wikia that the SPAS is illegal in CA i think but is it really due to the lack of a sporting purpose and the folding stock? And are my thoughts true that a genuine AK-47 or an AKM are illegal in California? I want to buy either or both in the future but I need to know the legality facts!

I believe the SPAS-12 is on the California Dept. of Justice list of banned weapons. I can't be certain on that so check with your local police department or district attorney for a copy of the list. I know for a fact the SPAS-12 is banned in Connecticut, cause a buddy of mine wants one but can't buy it legally there.
AK's are legal in California depending on configuration and modification. Check out the calguns website for all the info.

still looks awesome though and 50% of home defense is the psychology of it, cause lets face it if a burgular hears a shotgun being cocked followed by seeing that thing? *evil grin*

Thankfully I haven't had a burglar to test it out on yet lol.
Oddly enough it's variant, the SAS-12 sounds a lot more menacing than the SPAS-12 when cocked and loaded.

Then there's no better inanimate target then a ballistic gel torso or pig carcass, or go to your local firing range!

When you mentioned flaws in one of your previous comments I was curious as to what you meant?

The downsides/flaws that often come up when people talk about the SPAS-12 is how heavy it is which makes it fairly cumbersome to use as a home-defense gun or tactical shotgun in comparison to modern day shotguns.
It's also complicated because of the mechanics Franchi installed like the fact the SPAS has to be flipped upside down to be loaded. Switching between pump to semi isn't too hard but again some people wish it were simpler.

So you can,t oh say hold it up with one hand and load the shells into it from underneath?

Aptom In reply to SubjectGamma [2011-02-04 02:15:18 +0000 UTC]
I haven't tried but there is a button on the side that releases the feed ramp/gate to allow shell feeding which makes upside-down feeding the "easiest" method.

Nice buy!
I think, like just about everyone born in the 90's / 80's who watched good films growing up, I would love a SPAS 12. What HASN'T it been in?
Terminator, Jurassic Park, etc.
Also starred in various new video games like L4D2.
Say how much did it cost ya', roughly?
But again, awesome gun and great you got the stock with it too.

The SPAS-12 cost me about $1,200 in that configuration which is kind of rare to find all the right features.
Only issue was the original buffer had crumbled due to age so I bought a replacement.

That's an impressive example...good work. If I could own one shotgun it would be a SPAS-12.. and funnily enough, I've wanted one evr since seeing it featured in Jurassic Park

The SPAS-12 is the heaviest shotgun I have and it does live up to it's own flaws in a way.
Still, it's an awesome shotgun really and one of the few military style shotguns to go up in price as time goes by.

Actually I just bought the SPAS-12's little brothers; the SAS-12 and LAW-12.
I'll post a picture of the trio later.
