This is an excellent tutorial with a lot of great creative tips for using adjustment layers. A lot of people don't even know what these things are or all the awesome things they can do. I'm definitely going to try some of your ideas!

This is an awesome tutorial.
The only thing I think might be missing is layer masking... no need to go in depth but I think it's worth mentioning it as an additional tool; often masking can do what layers alone cannot.

It's really good if you want to mask off certain textures or subjects within a piece so that you can treat them differently; treat metal differently than flesh for example.

I'm pretty sure CS2 will have it, I think it was part of PS even before PS was part of CS.

Yes, there are mask layers don't worry
I m selftaught, so many of option of photoshop are a pure mystery
You will maybe laughing if I say I use only one brush all along the painting !

no, I wouldn't laugh at that at all. I hear that a lot from painterly/impressionist style painters: 1 round brush, maybe play with size and opacity from time to time.
