All of this series of tutorials is impressive both in terms of quality, clarity and possible results. (I also like your color turtles, which is a cute (but also damn effective) way of defining a palette)

This really helped on how to apply the color scheme. You can have a fantastic color scheme tutorial, but making it work together well is a completely different story when it came to applying it for myself. It was even tougher when it came to values. Thanks a bunch for this!

TrollkaRuby [2013-04-22 10:58:14 +0000 UTC]

I've got a question. Why do you almost never use emerald green? There are some bits in Pursuit of hapiness, but this color is never the main. Instead of emerald green you use turquoise tones. Is there any clever reason for it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AquaSixio In reply to TrollkaRuby [2013-04-22 14:45:17 +0000 UTC]

You are absolutly right ! This color bothers me, I don't know why. When I saw it was the fashion color of 2013, I was really surprised
My favorite green is the turquoisish( green " water " #B0F2B6) and I like this one two, darker #649B88

Im going to use those practices for my presentation tomorrow. I hope that my classmates can found a little inspiration with your work, as I did.

Thank you again

Keimichi [2013-04-09 01:47:22 +0000 UTC]

This is a fantastic tutorial!
I want to ask a question though. Usually I'm okay with colors, but recently, I've tried this drawing in which I used dark blue-ish purple as the darker tone. But I haven't been able to continue my drawing well because the colors looks weird. Mainly the skin tone. I was wondering if you had any suggestions regarding skin tones (since those work a bit differently than usual colors; it's hard to balance them and make them look like skin)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AquaSixio In reply to Keimichi [2013-04-09 06:55:46 +0000 UTC]

I often have this problem. So the color of the skin is a mix of the background colors and a " lighter " color, as you can see here : [link] here [link] or here : [link]

I don't know if it will help you... overall, if you say you painting is blue-ish and purple, you need to work with a lighter color or a complementary ( orange ? yellow ? green ? )... try your best ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Keimichi In reply to AquaSixio [2013-04-09 23:48:52 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm, those might give me some ideas. I think that might help (but I'll have to test out and see how it turns out)

Well, here's the pic: [link] The problem however is that the color choice for the outfit is too unbalanced, but I can't do anything about it (since it's a commission). I'm not sure where to go with the colors x__x;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AquaSixio In reply to Keimichi [2013-04-11 09:06:40 +0000 UTC]

The main problem for me, indor to help you, it's the lack of background. I really " build " my painting with the background colors, so it will be hard to help you for the moment

The purple/green of the face are a bit to vivid I think, in my humble opinion. you sould use the same colors I see on the belt ( yellow, blue, purple). So, as for me, I would change the color of the hair into yellow :/

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Keimichi In reply to AquaSixio [2013-04-15 01:57:32 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, I see. I don't usually start with backgrounds >o>;
I tuned down the whole thing. The green is less vivid (more yellow-ish) and the whole drawing isn't purple anymore. I think that helped.

Dr-Aim In reply to ??? [2013-04-06 17:44:41 +0000 UTC]

Interesting, although I guess it should not be used on every picture, or maybe a little lighter... I'm afraid that it would encourage over-satured pictures, attractive to the eye but a bit "flashy"... let's say perfect for surrealism, as you usually do, but to be used with caution when trying to get a little more realistic color scheme ? Not a bad way of seeing things anyway, I like the turtle trick.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AquaSixio In reply to Dr-Aim [2013-04-07 13:04:26 +0000 UTC]

I understand your point and I share your " fear ". When I look at my old work, I see I change my way of painting, and the colors are really " satured " for my current works. I hope it's just a step in my evolution

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dr-Aim In reply to AquaSixio [2013-04-10 07:12:41 +0000 UTC]

It's a bit weird tho because you here you just talked like if you had no control on what's happening with your colors, ahahaha

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AquaSixio In reply to Dr-Aim [2013-04-11 09:03:28 +0000 UTC]

Actually, you can't really " master " the color sheme, this is quite magic. One day I choose a palette and the day after I change the value, and the day after again and again, until the final version
