i think i'm gonna put some comments here that occurred to me in part when i saw the original "Feeding the crows." Its that the idea that things in close proximity add a sense of connection that can either help or be confusing. For me, in this piece there are two ways that it could be less confusing to look at. One is that the big hole in the tree somehow feels too solid to me, and without the umbrella giving it more definition, I think it needs to be less dominant.
The other is that i think the heart needs to slightly look a little more like a heart. like the black line that comes in on the top that has some snow on top of it: if there was less snow, and a clearer line, that would help its definition as being not just a blob.
I really love this idea of almost continuing the story behind another piece, but in a different style (more realistic here). And I love how dark the heart looks and how sinister the crow looks. So yeah, I really love this piece to the extent that knowing it could be better is hard to not mention.

Ahah, i'm so glad you posted the tutorial, now maybe i'll have some luck with...trees...and crows maybe. I love the little Oliva's you drew around the tutorial, like the one where she's fell..toward a snowman.
