Ah I love this drawing and the entire idea behind it. It makes me want to finish the "Cthulhu vs. Hulk" drawing that I started a few weeks back.

Thanks. You should definitely finish that series!

Heh I before I posted my asshole comment, I read other people comments and now I feel I may be alone in this belief. I was hoping to ask you if you realized that Godzilla would obviously lose to Cthulhu. So many reasons why. Cthulhu is not a genetic mutation. But these versus things never end so I'll just say forgive me for my arrogance. It's a very good picture. I always like images of the Dark One.

I didn't think that was an asshole comment at all. I'm personally getting a big kick out of the debate, and while I do have a soft spot in my heart for Godzilla, I am still very much on the fence on this one. Cthulhu might very well best Godzilla, and do so quite easily, (just as Godzilla would have realistically beaten Kong quite easily) yet simply because he would be the underdog, I would want him to win.

And thanks so much for the compliment. I'm tickled to get such a great reaction from my fellow geeks on this one.

When comparing one with the other, Cthulhu wins by default due to the fact that he can't die. Not to mention being a few billion years older than Godzilla, and a few billion years smarter. The squid probably has some nasty cosmic powers to play around with on the side...I'd say Godzilla is toast.

Some very good points I must say. However it must be said that age isn't a defining characteristic of survivability, (An 88 year old man cannot best a 25 year old generally speaking) or intelligence (see former point). Albert Einstein isn't going to win a boxing match with Muhammad Ali, (Not even in Ali's present condition).

Also, Godzilla has survived numerous devastating conflicts and has proved harder to kill than gamma irradiated cockroaches.

Cthulhu definitely does have some nasty cosmic powers however, and this will be the real crux of the conflict. It's entirely possible that Cthulhu could open up a quantum singularity with a wave of a face tentacle and send The Big Green Guy into a very compact oblivion.

This could be the most contentious match since Superman fought Mighty Mouse.

I hope Godzilla wins. He fought more monsters than Cthulhu has. I hope there is a fight between Dagon and Godzilla, or Dagon and King Kong. What do you think?

I think it opens up a lot of possibilities; Ithaqua verses Rodan, Ultraman verses Tsathoggua, Shub-Niggurath verses Apache Chief!!! Well, maybe not the last one, but you get the idea.

Yeah, those ideas sound good. I seen pictures of Shub-Niggurath, and she doesn't look anything like a goat. It must be a title. What do you think?

Like so many other figures in Lovecraft's Mythos, Shub-Niggurath has many forms, and the "goat" that is referenced may be one of those rarely taken by such an alien creature.

Nope. But it is my hope that one day my own work will be collected in some kind of gratuitous grimoire.

I have it. Got at at the Barnes and Nobles in Sioux Falls. So, did you know there is an actual cult that worships the Cthulhu mythos dieties?

Nothing surprises me anymore. There's probably a cult out there who worships Pikachu.

Well, he's got freakin' nuclear flame breath. I'd call that the weakness of sushi any day. I've gotta read that book though: Call of Cthulhu.

My understanding is that Cthulhu is also so powerful and bizarre that he drives humans made if they even look at him. There also isn't any evidence that Godzilla's breath would hurt him since he is not made of matter as we know it. I'd say Cthulhu wins.

Good point, I forgot about that whole... not being made of matter shit. Cthulu is the ultimate monster brawl troll.

aquilianranger In reply to cirqueducloud [2008-01-18 11:42:30 +0000 UTC]

But Cthulhu has massive occult abilities and magical powers beyond our human understanding. Sushi meets Doctor Strange. Our only hope is that Godzilla will toast him before he has the opportunity to wield his deviant manipulations of the weirder powers.

This is the most awesome battle of all time. Who else but Godzilla could save humanity from the terrible grasp of Cthulhu? Or would it be the other way around? This opens up a whole new branch of philosophy.

aquilianranger In reply to Poltergeise [2008-01-16 01:46:08 +0000 UTC]

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Japanese Kaiju are so Lovecraftian in concept anyway. Monstrous gods who are oblivious to their worshipers, rising from the sea from their unnatural sleep to lay waste to all they survey.
