Dude the artwork is absolutely beautiful.
But Cthulhu definitely has the upper hand here. As a being with enough power to only be woken up by an immense galactic allignment, and enough sheer power to rift into our world when such happens, I'm pretty positive this scene would be over in a few seconds. Heck, he could tool the entire city along with Godzilla in a matter of seconds. He probably wouldn't even have to lift a finger, being that he(and most of the other Lovecraftian myths) holds a plethora of mental capacites and abilities.
I mean seriously...A big ass lizard with super enhanced sun radiation emission, or one of the many creatures that helped colonize the universe as we know it? One of the MANY beings that have destroyed entire civilizations without even moving an inch, beings that can die and wake back up...
And Cthulhu, although he could probably change his size, would more than likely be way taller than good ol' Godzilla, being that his very discription states he is "mountainous" which could be in the thousands of feet.
But, like I said earlier, the artwork is very good...

Please ggman, the GHOSTBUSTERS beat Cthulhu by elecuting him! (Real Ghostbusters episode: Collect Call of Cthulhu) I'm sure Godzilla and his concentrated beam of radiation stands more then a chance. Pluss, being an animal, I doubt he has a sanity to lose, so tooling him is very unlikely.

Great picture and great idea. Also Cthulhu would totally win. After all, his mere presence is enough to drive nearly any living thing insane/dead. Plus he has all these arcane spells and regenerative abilities and crazy cults.
Cthuhlu Fhtagn!

I'm not sure what to say. My heart goes to Godzilla, he may not have the regenerative abilities of Cthulhu (seeing as he is never truely in our world and only manifests a body thorugh his psychic grip), but Godzilla has awsome black hole dodging skills, Magnitisim, and lots of fire power. Not to mention a cool roaster of allies.
Cthulhu? Cthulhu is invinsable, but not unstoppable. He may be able to regenerate like Majin Buu in DBZ, but... ack you know this why am I ranting.
BAD ASS, I love the sketch. XD Been wanting to do it myself. I love the odd detail abou teithers body, it actually looks like how they'd probally make it in the movies. Good Job.

Thanks so much for the kind commentary and comments.
My heart is with Godzilla too. He might have to put up quite the fight and get dusted up, but I'm sure at the last minute he'll carve an elder sign in Cthulhu's face with atomic flame and then throw him back into the sea.
That's how I call it anyway.

Go Goji! Anything that can hold off a black hole with a thermonuclear death beam (Godzilla vs. Megaguirus) gets my bet. That's just laws of physics defying.
Seriously though, awesome work. There was a fan fic a few years ago on one of the sites that featured the actual fight between Godzilla and various HP critters.
You'd never think Japanese kaiju would mix so well with Lovecraftian stuff, but it does. It'd be such an epic battle with neither able to "win in a blink of an eye" like some are trying to say.

This is an excellent pic! If you want to see a similar scene, drawn by someone with no artistic talent, check out my newest deviation. (I drew Cthulhu more like a squid, with two tentacles much longer than all the others.) It is not good art by a long shot, but my heart was in the right place! Ha!
Yours is really fantastic, by the way! I would love to see a movie based on this scene. I like both characters -- I am not sure who I would want to win!

Hurry hurry hurry, come to the Punchup at Piccadilly! Watch out and watch the brawl!
Winner takes all!
In this corner Gojira Um Godzilla winner of many battles! In the other corner, one who used to like the life of R'hyleh but now has arisen. You know how some folks are when they first wake up! Atomic fire vs Cyclopean horror. You choose!
If you survive the goings on, it will be a great story to tell the kids, hope they are in another city though.
If you survive this one, come on down to the small island of St Guredas for the Stomping in the Sea, Dagon Vs Gamera!
My spin depends on if Cthulhu's enemies decide to interfere. If they do, they could give Godzilla powers to defeat Cthulhu. He can't be killed but he could be forced back into the sea. If the stars are right that may not matter.
Great job with this.

If I creeped you out about me telling you that I visited that Cthulhu cult website, I apologize. Also, I was wondering if you ever watched the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion? Some of it looks Lovecraftian in my opinion. Maybe you can have a drawing of the robots from that show fighting one of the Mythos deities? What do you think of that?

Once again, you have not creeped me out. It takes a lot to creep me out.
And I don't watch a whole lot of anime. I'm more of a western art fan, although I certainly do appreciate the giant robots. I'd be more likely to draw Jet Jaguar or Ultraman.

Blackblade-shinobi In reply to aquilianranger [2010-04-24 15:50:16 +0000 UTC]
Well I thought that too before I watched it, and in the begining of the anime it does looks like just giant robots fighting monsters (like the power rangers), but as it gets close to the end the mood becomes darker and weirder; making a long story short: Lovecraftian.
Lol Ultraman FTW!

So, did you know that Stephen King and Clive Barker are inspired by H.P. Lovecraft? Youc can see it in their books and movies. In fact, Anne Rice is also inspired by H.P.Lovecraft as well.

The Blisk seem similiar to Mi-Go, since both are crustaceans. There is also the Arkvoodle cult, because Arkvoodle and Cthulhu are alien gods. The only difference between the two cults is that the Arkvoodle cult is peaceful, while the Cthulhu cult is warlike. I think those details in the game are Lovecraftian in way. What do you think about that?
